New Nonstop Flight Launches To Los Cabos From This U.S. City, But There’s A Catch

Share The Article

If you live in the Midwest, getting to Cabo usually involves a painful layover in Dallas, Phoenix, or Los Angeles.

But for travelers in Lansing, Michigan, the journey just got a lot faster—at least for the next few weeks.

This past Friday, the Capital Region International Airport (LAN) celebrated the launch of its inaugural nonstop service to Los Cabos (SJD). While a direct flight from Lansing to Baja is a game-changer for snowbirds, there is a significant catch that travelers need to be aware of before they get too excited.

Here are the details on the new route and why you need to book it immediately if you want to use it.

The Route: Lansing (LAN) to Cabo (SJD)

The new service is part of a partnership with Apple Vacations and is operated by GlobalX using Boeing 737 aircraft.

  • The Schedule: Flights depart once a week on Fridays.
  • The Experience: These are “Exclusive Nonstop Vacation Flights” (ENVFs), designed specifically to maximize vacation time with morning departures and late returns.

The “Catch”: It Is Extremely Seasonal

Unlike a standard commercial route from American or Delta that runs year-round, this is a dedicated “snowbird” and Spring Break service with a very hard expiration date.

The service only runs through April 1, 2026.

This means the window to utilize this nonstop convenience is incredibly narrow. It is essentially a “Spring Break Special” designed to get Michiganders out of the cold and onto Medano Beach during the peak high season.

Why This Matters

For years, Los Cabos has been aggressively courting the Midwest and East Coast markets. The addition of charters like this proves the demand is there, even if the year-round infrastructure isn’t quite ready yet.

If you are in Michigan and want to skip the layover, you have about 8 Fridays left to make it happen. After April 1st, you are back to connecting through O’Hare or DFW.
