Los Cabos Will See Busiest Year On Record In 2023

Share The Article

According to predictions released by FITURCA, Los Cabos is expecting up to 15% more tourists in 2023 than it welcomed last year, anticipating yet another record-breaking year for the region.

As more people flock to Los Cabos, future travelers can rest assured that 15% growth over a record-breaking 2022 is good on all accounts. The resorts, excursions, and beaches that tourists love will all see improvements as more tourist dollars are brought to the area.

So what is driving this constant increase in interest in Los Cabos?

Beautiful Landscapes & Attractions

Unsurprisingly, a large share of what is attracting more and more tourists to Los Cabos is the natural beauty of the region itself. Located on the Baja California Sur coastline and surrounded by the stunning Sea of Cortez, visitors have oceans, deserts, and mountains to explore – not to mention almost year-round sunny weather.

All of these landscapes provide the perfect opportunity for holiday activities. Water sports such as snorkeling, diving, jet skiing, and more are all popular on the main beaches of Los Cabos, while whale watching is the leading activity between November and April.

On dry land, many tourists stick to soaking up the sun on the beaches, such as Chileno, El Medano, or Playa Amor, or visiting one of the growing numbers of excellent restaurants in the tourist zone, which include everything from taco trucks to Michelin-star dining.

Increased Connectivity

One of the main reasons Los Cabos will likely see tourist growth in 2023 is due to new routes launching to other countries. Los Cabos already has many flights between major U.S. cities such as Chicago, New York, and LA.

Another new flight from LA launched last month with Sun Country Airlines, and a separate route between Los Cabos and Cancun will launch later this year, increasing connectivity within Mexico and allowing visitors to explore both regions.

Los Cabos is also hoping to expand internationally, with more direct flights to Spain and the possibility of routes to European destinations such as England, Germany, and Switzerland.

A Safe Destination

More and more visitors are choosing Los Cabos as a vacation destination due to its great safety record, as the region is one of the safest in Mexico, despite the country seeing conflict in other areas.

Incidents regarding safety are few and far between. Although certain scams are still ongoing, the authorities have cracked down in the last year by introducing heightened security, military patrols, and CCTV in the tourist zone

Aside from this, tourists are also regularly reminded to beware of safety measures when swimming on Los Cabos’ beaches, which can have strong currents and tides in stormy weather, and in hurricane season from September to December.

Luxury Hotels

If Los Cabos does see a significant increase in tourists, they certainly won’t need to worry about where to stay. Los Cabos already has some of the best luxury hotels and renowned brands in the world, with even more opening in 2023.

A number of exciting new properties will be opening in the region, including a St. Regis, Four Seasons, Hyatt, and the area’s first Aman hotel. Due to the increasing number of high-end properties, average nightly rates have skyrocketed to around $470, which could increase again this year.

Despite the prices, hotel occupancy has been extremely high, particularly over Los Cabos’ traditionally busy high period during Christmas and New Year, which saw occupancy shoot up to 90%. Spring Break is also fast approaching next month, with hotels already booked up by around 70%.
