We at The Cabo Sun spend a lot of time in and around the Los Cabos International Airport (SJD), especially now that it’s gearing up for another packed high season with more flights and busier terminals than ever. So it’s natural to wonder: is paying extra for the Los Cabos VIP Lounge in Terminal 2 actually worth it, or is it just a fancy name for a slightly nicer waiting area?
We recently tested the VIP Lounge in the international terminal ourselves, using a Priority Pass membership, and we’re breaking down exactly what you get, who it’s best for, and when you can probably keep that money in your pocket instead.

What (And Where) Is The Los Cabos VIP Lounge?
The VIP Lounge we’re talking about is in Terminal 2, the international terminal most U.S. and Canadian travelers use when flying home. It’s located after security, tucked near the food court area of departures.
Once you’re inside, you’re generally allowed to stay up to about 3 hours, and kids under 7 are typically admitted free with an adult. That window lines up perfectly with what we recommend in our guide on how early you really need to get to the Los Cabos airport, especially during busy weekends and high season when flights are stacked close together.
Bottom line: think of the lounge as a little “bubble” inside an airport that’s now one of the busiest in Mexico, with hundreds of weekly flights and very lively terminals.
How Much Does It Cost — And Who Gets In?
There are two main ways to access the Los Cabos VIP Lounge in Terminal 2:
- Lounge memberships & credit cards: The lounge partners with programs like Priority Pass and certain premium credit cards (including some American Express and Mastercard products). If you already have one of these, you may be able to walk in “for free” as a card benefit, sometimes with a guest included.
- Paying at the door or booking online: If you don’t have a membership, you can typically buy access for roughly $45–$60 USD per person, depending on the exchange rate and how you book (airport website, third-party, or walk-up).
Compared to what you might spend in the terminal on a couple of cocktails, snacks, and Wi-Fi, that price can be pretty reasonable—especially when you factor in the comfort and calm. In our earlier airport tips, we’ve already flagged lounge access as one of the smartest splurges if you’re going to be at SJD for a while.

What It Actually Feels Like Inside (Our On-The-Ground Take)
On our most recent trip, we arrived about three hours before departure. Security was almost empty, which meant we cleared quickly and suddenly had two and a half hours to kill. That’s where the lounge really started to shine.
Here’s what stood out:
- Comfortable seating – Proper couches, padded chairs, and a mix of tables and armchairs. It felt more like a hotel lobby than a departure gate.
- Dedicated work area – There’s a small workspace with tables and power outlets, perfect if you need to answer emails or squeeze in a bit of remote work before flying home.
- Free food and drinks – Expect a basic buffet (think small bites, light snacks, and simple hot items rather than a full gourmet spread) plus a bar with soft drinks, coffee, and alcoholic beverages included.
- Good Wi-Fi – We tested it specifically for work and streaming; it was more than fast enough for email, file uploads, and social scrolling.
- Clean bathrooms – A big plus. Having a quieter, well-maintained restroom just steps from where you’re relaxing is more valuable than it sounds when the main terminal is busy.
- Attentive staff – Servers walked around taking drink and coffee orders, which adds to that “VIP” feeling even though the vibe is relaxed and casual.
The lounge was pleasantly busy but not packed, and it felt like one of the few places in the airport where you could fully exhale before a flight.

When Paying For Lounge Access Is Absolutely Worth It
We’d say the Los Cabos VIP Lounge is very worth it in a few specific scenarios:
- You’re an early-bird traveler: If, like many of our readers, you prefer to arrive early “just in case,” especially in high season when the airport can see up to 130 flights a day, lounge access turns that extra buffer time into something enjoyable instead of stressful clock-watching in the terminal.
- You’re traveling during peak weekends or holidays: Our recent coverage of how busy the airport gets in high season and the surge to over 600 weekly flights shows just how intense certain days can be. Having a guaranteed, calm space makes a massive difference once the crowds build up in the food court and at the gates.
- You need to work or rest properly: For digital nomads, business travelers, or anyone who wants to catch up on work, the combo of Wi-Fi, outlets, and a quieter atmosphere is a big upgrade. For others, a comfy armchair and a glass of wine before a long flight home is the real luxury.
- You’d otherwise spend on food and drinks anyway: Airport prices add up quickly. If you were already planning to buy a couple of drinks and a snack, lounge access can be a better overall value.

When You Can Probably Skip It (And What To Do Instead)
The VIP Lounge won’t be a must for every traveler.
You may want to skip it if:
- You’re arriving very close to departure and will only have 45–60 minutes airside.
- You’re traveling on a tight budget and prefer to put that $50 toward a nice meal in the marina or another activity in town.
- You actually like wandering the terminal—shopping, browsing duty-free, or grabbing a last-minute taco instead of sitting in one place.
If you decide not to splurge, we’ve already shared other ways to make the most of your time at SJD in our guides to spending time at the airport when you’re early or delayed and our broader arrival and departure tips for Los Cabos.

How To Get The Most Value From The Lounge
If you do go for it, a few quick tips:
- Check your benefits – Before your trip, see if your credit card or travel program already includes Priority Pass or similar lounge access so you’re not paying twice.
- Time it right – Aim to arrive with 2–3 hours to spare. That gives you long enough to relax, eat, work, and still stroll to your gate without rushing.
- Arrive a bit hungry and thirsty – The value goes up when you actually use the included food and drinks instead of grabbing everything in the terminal first.
- Keep an eye on the clock – Most programs cap stays around three hours, and you’ll still want time to walk to your gate and board. However, you are never more than a 5-minute walk from any of the gates.

Our Honest Verdict
From our on-the-ground experience, the Los Cabos VIP Lounge in Terminal 2 is absolutely worth it if you:
- Arrive early (by choice or because your transfer drops you off with a big buffer)
- Value a calm, comfortable place to sit, snack, and work
- Already have lounge access through a card or membership
If you’d have to pay out of pocket, we’d still say “yes” for peak-season travelers, long waits, and anyone who treats that last stretch at the airport as part of the vacation. If you’re dashing in last-minute or counting every dollar, you’ll be perfectly fine using the regular terminal instead.
Either way, knowing your options is the real VIP move.
