It has been announced that the official Los Cabos Pride parade will take place in the region on June 19th 2022, with over 5,000 participants expected to take part.

Raúl Pérez, the President of Codisex AC, announced at a recent press conference the date that Los Cabos Pride will take place this year, on June 19th. He said that the event will be held in collaboration with the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (Fiturca).

Fiturca endeavours to promote the region as an inclusive tourist destination and will aim to promote the event internationally and within Mexico.

Mr. Pérez said, “We are extremely happy to combine the hard work of both the Tourism Trust (Fiturca) and the work of civil associations. This year we will be promoting the Los Cabos LGBT Pride March 2022”.

He continued, “This is an event that has been taking place for more than 16 years, however this year it has a special significance, and a more international connection that seeks to promote the rights of the LGBT community”.

The 2022 march will take place in the streets of the main tourist area of Cabo San Lucas on June 19th. Another event will also take place in parking lot number 8, next to the Culture Pavilion, where artists from the LGBT community will perform in a concert.

On Sunday 19th June, the event will begin at around 7pm. Mr. Pérez added that, “We want people to be as punctual as possible, remaining respectful of time and space, as we will be taking over a public street area. Therefore, it will be important for people to arrive on time so that when the march concludes we can begin the celebratory festival”.

Fiturca reported recently during the Tourism Tanguis, Los Cabos’ tourism conference, that the LGBT market comprises 16% of all tourism in Los Cabos, with Chicago being the main market from where LGBT tourists travel to the region.

The LGBT community recently recognised the area of Los Cabos as one of the most LGBT-friendly destinations, giving Los Cabos an award to mark the occasion.

It received the award from the LGBT+ Travel Association for being welcoming to all members of the LGBT community and having a variety of LGBT friendly choices for visitors.

To receive the award, regions must undergo a training process and sign a letter of commitment. They must also develop strategies, tours and products specifically aimed at the LGBT community.

The Los Cabos Pride March is not a new event and it was last held as a huge parade, attended by both tourists and locals in 2019, before being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Aside from the 2022 parade and festival, the government intends to hold a full week of low-key events leading up to the occasion to attract tourists and promote the celebration.

Cabo San Lucas is fast becoming a go-to destination for LGBT travellers as it has a range of beaches, restaurants and bars which are all inclusive and welcoming. With its award, the region will soon develop specific LGBT events and products meaning an even greater number of tourists will be drawn to the area.

Currently Los Cabos is only home to the popular Chandelier Nightclub, which is the only official gay club in the area.

Queer Destinations, who also collaborated to give the award to Los Cabos, has been working with the Los Cabos Tourism Association to implement a post-Covid tourism recovery plan with brands such as Hyatt and Marriot to build new resorts and facilities. There is hope that this means the new developments will also be LGBT-friendly and is sure to encourage more travellers to Los Cabos, which has recently pledged to also develop the area to benefit tourists with disabilities.
