According to local news, in 2023, Los Cabos Airport was the third in the country for international arrivals.
The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, said that this airport received a total of 2 million and 307 thousand tourists, a 6.2% increase compared to 2022.
According to current data, Cancun and Mexico City airports were the airports that received the highest number of tourists, with Americans being the most numerous visitors, followed by Canadians and Colombians.
But why do tourists keep choosing Los Cabos for their vacations?
Here are three factors leading so many people to return to Los Cabos year after year.
Ultimate luxury
In recent years, Los Cabos has become synonymous with ultimate luxury. World-renowned celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake have, in fact, been spotted vacationing in this Mexican municipality.
Not by chance, this area is home to a high number of all-inclusive resorts and five-star hotels.
A few days ago, Rodrigo Esponda, the General Director of the Los Cabos Tourist Trust (FITURCA) declared: “As far as the category of 5-Diamond hotels is concerned, our country has eighteen tourist complexes of that size, and I can tell you that the municipality of Los Cabos has eleven of those eighteen hotels.”
Properties such as the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal and the Grand Velas resort are constantly ranked among the best in the world. Not by chance, the first was recently recognized as the 2024 Most Instagrammable Hotel by Forbes magazine, while the latter was awarded second place by U.S. News on its 2024 Best Hotel Mexico list.
Apart from luxury hotels, Los Cabos is also popular thanks to the many fine-dining restaurants present here where world-renowned chefs serve their latest creations. State-of-the-art spas and top-notch golf courses are only some of the other facilities present in Los Cabos that contribute to its popularity.
Breathtaking nature
Another reason leading so many tourists to choose Los Cabos is the stunning nature characterizing this place.
Not by chance, this is the North American area with the highest number of blue-flag-certified beaches, with a total of 25!
Places such as El Médano Beach, Santa Maria Beach, and El Chileno Beach welcome hundreds of thousands of tourists every year thanks to the cleanliness of their water and the high safety levels guaranteed by the local government.
But Los Cabos is way more than a beach destination. With the Sierra de la Laguna Mountain Range located just a few miles from some of the most popular cities in the municipality, people heading here can also decide to opt for a hike instead of spending each day at the sea.
High safety levels
Last but not least, American tourists often return to Los Cabos because of the municipality’s high safety levels.
Report after report keeps ranking Los Cabos as one of the safest areas in Mexico, thanks to the many initiatives implemented by the local government to keep tourists safe at all times.
For instance, just a few days ago, a new initiative was put in place by the Los Cabos authorities with the aim of increasing the number of beach inspections to prevent unauthorized vendors from selling fake deals to tourists.
On top of this, the local government has recently decided to increase the number of troops present along the famous Tourist Corridor, a road connecting two of the most popular cities in the municipality, San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
This road is used by thousands of people every day, including tourists who just landed at San José del Cabo Airport, but is unfortunately prone to accidents due to the many drivers ignoring speed limits.
By increasing the number of troops present on this popular road the Los Cabos government is hoping to reduce the unfortunately frequent car crashes taking place in the area further improving the already high safety levels of this municipality.
