Los Cabos’ popularity keeps increasing as the San José Airport registered an 11.5% total increase in the number of its passengers.

The data refers to the period from January to October 2023 and was compared to the numbers registered last year.

Both international and domestic arrivals increased, but the latter truly skyrocketed.

It seems that more and more locals are now noticing the potential of Los Cabos and are deciding to book their holidays here, making this location a bit more authentic for the average American tourist who would usually find themselves surrounded by compatriots when staying in one of the popular resorts in the area.

This data confirms what many reports published by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico reported in the last few months—namely, a steady increase in the number of terminal passengers in the San José del Cabo Airport.

Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico is a massive corporation operating 12 airports throughout Mexico’s Pacific region, including Guadalajara, Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta, La Paz, and Manzanillo.  But why do people keep flocking to Los Cabos?

Plenty of flight options

At the beginning of September 2023, the US Federal Aviation Authority decided to give a new ranking to Mexico, categorizing it as a category one nation, an upgrade from its previous category two status.

This is the USA’s highest security ranking and allowed airlines to offer new flights to this destination.

More air routes obviously mean more tourists, so this will only push these new records even higher as the destination continues to add new flight routes. To this day, a total of 28 US cities are connected to this popular destination via direct flights.

Some of these include Minneapolis, Chicago, San Diego, Phoenix, Houston, Los Angeles, and NYC, just to name a few.

Tourists can also choose among a variety of airlines, offering both low costs and luxurious services. From Delta to American Airlines, Southwest, and JetBlue, more and more companies every year are adding new flights to Los Cabos.

High safety levels

Another main reason leading so many people to choose Los Cabos for their holidays is the high level of safety of the municipality.

Report after report keeps confirming how this is one of the safest areas in Mexico for a variety of reasons. The Los Cabos government continuously tries to improve its ranking with several initiatives.

Just to mention a few, a few months ago, the local authorities decided to increase the number of policemen in the municipality to keep tourists and locals alike safe.

In September, the government also announced that the most popular beach in the area, El Medano, would be constantly monitored to protect people from the dangers of the sea as well as local scams.

The last demonstration of this constant effort to increase safety levels in the municipality came with the arrival of Hurricane Norma.

The local authorities immediately ordered the closure of street vendors and other possibly affected businesses due to sewage water that may have affected the food.

Activities galore

Lastly, tourists keep flocking to Los Cabos due to the many activities this destination can offer to its visitors. People looking for a luxurious trip can choose from an incredible variety of five-star hotels, all-inclusive resorts, and humongous villas with ocean vistas.

Foodies are also increasingly choosing this destination due to its fine-dining restaurants. According to a recent report, more than one in ten people opt for Los Cabos precisely for this reason.

This municipality is also establishing itself as one of the best food-to-table destinations in Mexico, with several restaurants using ingredients cultivated in their own fields to prepare their dishes.

Lastly, Los Cabos is ideal for all adventurous seekers and nature lovers. With 25 blue-certified beaches and UNESCO biosphere reserves, there is no way to get bored here.

Visitors can watch whales playing in their natural habitat on a boat tour, spend a day surfing in the Sea of Cortez, or go hiking in the stunning Sierra de la Laguna reserve.
