One of the most important things in any vacation destination is for tourists to feel safe while visiting.

Every major tourist city gets its share of crime, but the presence of authorities helps to deter some of that crime, especially crimes against tourists.

This is why Los Cabos officials are constantly increasing security during busy tourism seasons, and now Los Cabos is adding to the police force to improve safety overall.

Part Of A Bigger Security Plan For Los Cabos

The training of more police officers is part of a bigger security plan in Los Cabos.

Certain goals are defined in the Municipal Development Plan that began in 2021 and will extend to 2024.

Officials say that they are on track to meet those goals, one of which is “increasing the number of police officers to attend to various problems that exist in Los Cabos.”

Los Cabos Security Overview

Los Cabos is more secure than many other Mexican cities.

One of the reasons for this is that it isn’t connected to mainland Mexico.

The efforts of officials at keeping the destination secure by deploying military and law enforcement to tourist areas also make a huge difference in making Los Cabos the secure destination it is.

Safest Places To Stay In Los Cabos

The tourist areas of both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are safe areas to be in.

This includes where the luxury all-inclusive hotels and resorts are located, the main beaches, downtown San Jose del Cabo, and the marinas.

Additionally, the hotels in the Tourist Corridor and the beaches around them are safe for tourists as well.

The only places not necessarily safe for tourists are a few neighborhoods well away from the tourist areas.

The dangerous neighborhoods are:

  • Santa Rosa
  • Los Cangrejos
  • Las Palmas

How Los Cabos Tourists Feel About Security In Los Cabos

According to a poll released in April, the perception of security in Los Cabos over other places in Mexico is strong.

The poll surveys both locals and tourists about witnessing crimes in various Mexican cities and about how safe they feel in those cities.

Los Cabos, where only 22 percent of the individuals polled had witnessed a violent incident over the last few months, was determined to be the destination where locals and tourists feel safer than anywhere else in the country.
