There are regions all over the world that are known for their beaches, and in Mexico alone there are a few, one being the Baja California Peninsula.
Some of the most visited beaches in this region are in Los Cabos, which is made up of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
If you go about 2 hours north of Cabo San Lucas, though, you can visit Balandra Beach, a gorgeous beach near Los Cabos that is rated among the Top 10 worldwide by the experts at Worlds50Beaches.
What Makes Balandra Beach So Special
There are two contributing factors to the sheer beauty of Balandra Beach.
The first is the mesmerizing bright, crystal clear, turquoise water, which is known for its warm temperature and being shallow and calm enough for swimming.
The other is the breathtaking landscape surrounding the beach, characterized by hills, rock formations, and beautiful soft white sand.

How Balandra Beach Fares In The Ratings
All of the beaches that were rated among The World’s 50 Best Beaches were rated based on four factors.
The first is the average annual temperature of the water, which at Balandra Beach is around 76 degrees.
The second is the days of sunshine the area receives, and in this case, it’s a whopping 325.
In the category of how swimmable the beach is, Balandra was rated 9 out of 10, and as far as it being part of untouched nature, Balandra Beach was given a rating of 8 out of 10.
Balandra Beach was rated #10 overall on the list.

Where Balandra Beach Is Located
Balandra Beach is located in La Paz.
La Paz is the capital city of the state of Baja California Sur, which sits at the lower part of the Baja Peninsula.
The Baja Peninsula is connected by land to the U.S. state of California, so it’s a quick trip from the western United States for travelers who want to take a little getaway.

How Officials Keep The Beach Beautiful
Since 2018, Balandra Beach has been a protected area, so officials make every effort to preserve it.
They do this by limiting visitors daily to 900 and allowing them in during two different time slots.
One is in the morning from 8 am – 12 pm, and the other in the afternoon from 1 – 5 pm.

Tips For Visiting Balandra Beach
Although Balandra Beach doesn’t get too crowded because of the visitor limit, it’s still best to arrive early, regardless of which time slot you’ll be visiting.
This is because the lines and the wait to enter can be lengthy.
You’ll also want to pack a bag with necessities like water, snacks, sunscreen, an umbrella, etc., because you won’t find vendors on the beach like you do in Los Cabos, and nothing can be built on the beach.

Why You Should Spend A Day In La Paz When Visiting Balandra Beach
When visiting Balandra Beach, you definitely don’t want to skip out on spending a little time in La Paz.
This charming city is known for its art scene and history, and examples of both can be seen all over town.
La Paz is also a great place to try some authentic Mexican food and kick back at a waterfront restaurant for a cold beverage after a long day in the sun.

Best Way To Get To La Paz And Balandra Beach
There are two ways to get to La Paz from Los Cabos Airport, which for now is where you’ll need to fly into, and that’s by either renting a car or booking some form of transportation.
Renting a car, which will cost in the neighborhood of $30 a day, is your best option because then you can drive straight to the beach, which is about a half hour outside of La Paz.
If you do decide to take a shuttle or private transportation to La Paz, though, you can still catch a bus to Balandra Beach.
It isn’t the most convenient way to experience one of the world’s top 10 beaches, but if it means not missing out, it’s well worth it.
