Cabo Pulmo is a national marine park covering nearly 30 square miles. It has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.   

The park is within the Sea of Cortez, which was coined as being the “Aquarium of the World,” by oceanographer Jacques Cousteau.   

It is known for being one of the best snorkeling places in North America, with more than 6,000 species of marine life.

How Far Is Cabo Pulmo From Los Cabos? 

Cabo Pulmo is located close enough to Los Cabos to take a day trip while you’re visiting the popular destination.   

It’s just an hour and a half from San Jose del Cabo and two hours from Cabo San Lucas.

Cabo Pulmo is estimated to be around 20,000 years old. It’s home to more than 10 different coral species and a huge number of marine species.

The Current Threat To The Future Of Cabo Pulmo 

Another reason to visit Cabo Pulmo now is because it’s facing a threat that could have major environmental impacts.   

This is due to a massive resort community that is being proposed called the Baja Bay Club.   

If developed, it will cover approximately 1,500 acres in the area near Cabo Pulmo National Park.

How To Get To Cabo Pulmo 

There are several options for visiting Cabo Pulmo when you visit Los Cabos.   

One option is booking a tour, which you can do through a third-party booking platform like Viator.   

Tours start at around $120 per person for a tour that doesn’t include transportation and can go for as much as $279 or more for one that does.

Where To Stay Near Cabo Pulmo 

Near Cabo Pulmo, you’ll find a variety of accommodation options.   

There are a few smaller boutique-like hotels, as well as Airbnbs and other vacation rental properties, nearby.   

Rates range in price, but you can expect to pay around at least $75 a night for a highly-rated hotel that’s within 15 miles of the park.
