Definitive Guide To Getting Around Los Cabos

Share The Article

Los Cabos as a whole, which includes Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, is spread out over more than 20 miles, so to see everything, transportation may be necessary during your trip.

At the very least, you will need transportation from Los Cabos International Airport to your resort and back.  This definitive guide to getting around Los Cabos will help you navigate that, and any other transportation needs you might have while visiting the popular vacation destination.

Uber Facts And Myths

Uber has become a popular way to get around in the United States, so you may be wondering if the ridesharing company operates in Los Cabos too.  The answer to that question is – sort of.  It’s a little complicated because Uber doesn’t operate with the same licenses as taxi drivers, so their services are limited.  For example, an Uber driver cannot pick you up from the airport but can drop you off there, and Uber drivers commonly avoid picking up at resorts, but will instead ask you to walk a little down the road.  That being said, it is safe to use Uber in Los Cabos.

Taxis In Los Cabos

Taxis are one of the most used forms of transportation in Los Cabos.  This is because there are a lot of them, and they’re easy to get.  Taxis in Los Cabos are not like taxis in the states, though, so we’ll give you a few tips for using them during your Cabo vacation.

Tips For Using Taxis In Los Cabos

  • You can get a taxi by calling a local company, hailing one down, or walking to a taxi rank.
  • Los Cabos taxis don’t use meters and don’t have a set price, so feel free to haggle if you want to.
  • Taxis in Los Cabos do not accept credit cards but do typically accept both U.S. dollars and Mexican pesos.  Keep change on you for paying in either currency.
  • Taxi vehicles do not have a uniform look, so spotting them may be difficult.  Vans and sedans are commonly used vehicles.
  • A taxi from San Jose del Cabo To Cabo San Lucas will cost around $45 or more.
  • Taxi drivers in Los Cabos are known to overcharge tourists.

Using Private Transportation

Private transportation is another option in Los Cabos and can be booked in advance to save a little money.  One-way private transportation for a group of up to 8 people booked through Viator ranges from around $70-$130.

Booking private transportation for a group through the airport starts at around $100.  While this may seem pricey, you have the benefit of a more comfortable ride that is already booked and paid for before your arrival.

Booking Tours To Get Around

If you aren’t doing much traveling other than to and from your hotel and maybe a little sightseeing, then a tour may be an option.  Rather than booking a taxi or private transportation for a trip to La Paz or Todos Santos, for example, you could book a tour that offers hotel pick up and drop off, and it may cost less.  A day trip to Todos Santos from Cabo San Lucas, for example, can be found for $125, and it includes hotel transportation and lunch.

Los Cabos’ Walkability

If you are staying in the downtown areas or near the marinas in either San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas, you’ll find these areas quite walkable actually.  In both places, you’ll have at least some restaurants and attractions nearby.  You’ll also be able to walk to at least one of the area’s beaches from most hotels in these areas.

If you plan to arrive in Los Cabos and get to your resort and stay there, you won’t have many transportation needs.  But if you plan on exploring the area, you may also want to explore your transportation options in Los Cabos.
