Americans Can Fly Nonstop To Los Cabos For The First Time Ever From This Major City

We at The Cabo Sun love a good nonstop—and this one’s a first. Indianapolis is finally getting a direct flight to Los Cabos.

Southwest Airlines will launch seasonal nonstop service from Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to Los Cabos International (SJD) for Spring Break 2026, marking the first time Indy travelers can fly straight to Cabo without a connection.

When the flights run (and how to plan around them)

The route is scheduled to operate Saturdays only from March 5 through April 6, 2026—perfect for classic weeklong vacations.

That cadence makes it easy: fly down on a Saturday, come back the following Saturday, and spend seven full nights beach-hopping, taco-tasting, and arch-spotting.

Why Indy got Cabo now

In announcing the news, airport leadership called Cabo “the latest win for Indy travelers,” noting it joins new long-haul options like Punta Cana and Dublin on the airport’s growing international list.

It also becomes Indy’s second destination in Mexico, alongside Cancun.

Delta begins its own nonstop to Cancun from IND in December 2025—so options are multiplying for Hoosiers who love the beach.

What this means for your trip (and your wallet)

  • Saturdays are king. With weekly service, prime seats will go first. If your dates are flexible, look at the shoulder weeks on either end of the schedule window for better availability.
  • Build the perfect 7-night stay. Saturday-to-Saturday aligns beautifully with most resort calendars (and often unlocks better weekly rates).
  • Bags & fees—new rules for Southwest. For tickets booked on or after May 28, 2025, Southwest now charges for most checked bags: currently $35 for the first and $45 for the second each way, with exceptions for certain fares and status/credit-card holders. Carry-on plus personal item remains free. Plan your packing (and budget) accordingly.
  • Seat selection & boarding have evolved. Southwest has rolled out a fare family framework and new seat-selection/boarding benefits tied to status and credit cards. If sitting together matters, review your options before you buy.

Arrival tips for SJD (so you start relaxing faster)

  • Know your terminal. Most U.S. flights arrive at Terminal 2 at SJD. After customs, pre-arranged transportation pick-ups are outside the terminal—don’t stop inside for unsolicited offers.
  • Time your transfer. Resorts in Cabo San Lucas are ~45–60 minutes from the airport depending on traffic; San José del Cabo resorts are typically 15–25 minutes away. (Plan snacks and water for the ride!)
  • First-day musts. Hydrate, apply reef-safe sunscreen, and book that dinner on the marina or in San José’s Art District before spots fill up.

Can’t make a Saturday? Here’s what to do

If your spring break starts midweek, you can still get to Cabo the same day with a one-stop via big hubs like Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, or Houston on multiple airlines.

But if you can swing a Saturday, that nonstop from Indy is the smoothest play—and the one that gets you toes-in-sand the quickest.

Bottom line

For the first time, Indy travelers have a straight shot to Cabo—no connections, no stress, just sunshine.

Saturday-only flights from early March to early April make weeklong escapes a no-brainer.

Keep an eye on Southwest’s schedule and the new baggage rules when you’re pricing your trip, then snag those seats and start daydreaming about oceanfront breakfasts and golden-hour strolls under El Arco.
