Los Cabos Launching Large Operation To Keep Tourists Safe Ahead of Easter

With the peak of the spring travel season right around the corner, Los Cabos police officials are gearing up for the rush and putting proactive plans in place to keep tourists safe during this busy season.

Operation Easter 2023

Los Cabos Public Security, Preventative Police, and Municipal Traffic General Director Jesús Antonio Gómez Rodríguez has created an extensive plan involving all three levels of government – federal, state, and municipal – to keep tourists safe from criminal activity.

He has dubbed the mission Operation Easter 2023.

Both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo will be the focus of the Easter security operation. However, the plan calls for more strict enforcement in areas that are considered the most risk for tourists with the most reports of recent criminal activity.

Safe Street Surveillance

The plan will rely on the network of security cameras located all over the tourist areas of Los Cabos. One of the main focus areas of this network is the El Médano beach area.

The Safe Street initiative will be supported by the Mexican National Guard as well as the state police to ensure a blanket coverage of all areas of Los Cabos, including the main tourist areas.

This is in response to some recent issues with criminal syndicates in areas outside of Los Cabos and Baja California Sur.

The Safe Streets mission is to ensure that problems don’t come to Los Cabos and cause extensive problems for tourists and locals enjoying the holiday season.

Police Double-Up Shifts

The Los Cabos Public Safety Department will be working double shifts during the Easter holiday to respond to the needs of tourists enjoying the peak of the spring travel season.

Los Cabos Public Security, Preventative Police, and Municipal Traffic General Director Jesús Antonio Gómez Rodríguez stated that this is to ensure that police are always available for tourist safety.

They will also be traveling in pairs and will be accompanied by police dogs to quickly respond to any incident anywhere in Los Cabos.

This was recently an issue when a fight occurred outside the Cabo Shots nightclub and was broadcasted live on social media around the world. The tourists filming the beating were questioning where the police were to protect tourists in Los Cabos.

Tourist Safety Issue

The issue of tourist safety has become front and center recently in Los Cabos as the community struggles with issues related to the dramatic increase in tourist traffic this spring season.

Not only has criminal activity overall picked up in Los Cabos, but there have recently been a number of infrastructure issues related to traffic and roads.

Los Cabos Mayor Oscar Leggs has committed all of the resources of the municipality to keep tourists safe and has even requested additional assistance from both the federal and state levels of government to ensure safety.

Recommended Steps For Safety

Los Cabos Public Security, Preventative Police, and Municipal Traffic General Director Jesús Antonio Gómez Rodríguez did share some proactive tips to help tourists stay safe in Los Cabos during this important Easter week.

The first recommendation was to not drive impaired. Los Cabos tourists should not drive after drinking, avoid using cell phones when driving, and not be distracted by other things while driving.

Tourists also need to be aware of road construction areas in the tourist zone of Los Cabos when driving and walking. There have been some incidents lately related to tourists not paying attention to construction zones.

Also, he urged Los Cabos visitors to watch their surroundings and, if something seems a little strange, to report the incident to local police officials. Simply reach out to a federal, or state municipal or call 911 to report any suspicious activity to keep everyone safe during the holiday season.
