Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort in Los Cabos, is set to finally reopen after undergoing extensive renovations and repairs to the original structure. The property owned and managed by the Marriott group closed rather unexpectedly back in 2021 and remained closed throughout 2022. It was one of the newest properties that Marriott boasted in Los Cabos at the time, having only been opened in 2018.
Since it was such a new facility, it came as a huge surprise when seemingly out of the blue, the resort stopped receiving reservations for upcoming dates. At the time, a spokesperson for Marriott had this to say about the situation,
“The hotel has been closed due to unanticipated work that needs to be done throughout the entire 30+ acre complex and to enable that work to proceed efficiently. Our guests have been relocated to other luxury hotels in the Marriott portfolio located in Los Cabos.”
The Resort Will Reopen With Expanded Facilities
Marriott recently announced that a part of the resort will be ready to reopen its doors in a few months’ time. In the announcement, the hotel chain mentioned that they had expanded the number of rooms that the resort would offer. More specifically, it’s the hotel suites that are being expanded. Tourists who want to experience the new facilities though will have to wait until April.

The main hotel building is already taking reservations. Rooms at the facility will go for around 800 to 930 dollars a night through the end of February. Meanwhile, 18 new suites have been added to the hotel lineup. One new Villa Solaz Suite was built, which is essentially a full-on beach house on the resort property. Two new wellness suites are also part of the 18-suite extension that was made to the property.
What may be a bit unsettling for resort guests is the fact that there’s no mention of the structural damages that were originally blamed for the resort closing. If the resort is being allowed to reopen, it’s understood that these issues have been fixed, but there’s no clarity on the matter. In any case, villas are available to be booked starting April 1st. Nightly rates for resort villas start at 3350 dollars from the middle of April onward.
Why The Resort Is A Cabo Favorite
The Solaz, a Luxury Collection Resort in Los Cabos, isn’t necessarily a property that offers an overwhelming number of amenities on resort property. Guests have access to 6 on-resort restaurants, they can book tee times at nearby golf courses, and enjoy the infinity pools that are available at the hotel, which was one of the biggest reasons why this resort was popular before being shut down for the aforementioned renovation. The resort is located between the beach and the transpeninsular road that connects Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
This location provides great views for guests out to the sea of Cortez from the rooms with balconies at the main hotel building and, of course, from the newly renovated villas. There are multiple hotels that share this beachfront, but this is essentially a private beach area that allows guests to have a less hectic beach-going experience than what travelers staying in hotels near El Medano beach will typically have.
While most of the people that stay at this resort and other nearby properties tend to stay “on campus” throughout their stay, since they are located right in between San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, it’s perhaps easier to explore the region from this spot. The Cabo San Lucas Marina is about a 20-minute car ride from the resort, while the San Jose del Cabo City center is right around 17 minutes away.
