Los Cabos is generally considered a safe vacation destination and is, in fact, one of the safest in Mexico.

That’s not to say that crime is nonexistent in the destination, though.

Security is being enhanced in Los Cabos following several recent incidents.

None involved tourists, but there is an increased security presence throughout the destination.

Where The Incidents Occurred

The incidents that occurred took place in all three areas of Los Cabos.

This includes neighborhoods in San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas and along the Tourist Corridor that connects the two cities.

None of the incidents occurred in popular tourist areas of the destination, but a couple of them may have been too close for comfort.

Recent Crimes Involving Rideshare Platform Drivers In Los Cabos

Over two days in the middle of this past week, on Wednesday and Thursday, there were several violent crimes reported in Los Cabos.

Two of the incidents involved rideshare platform drivers.  In one case, a female driver was assaulted and had her vehicle stolen in Cabo San Lucas.

Other Crimes Over The Two-Day Period

In addition to the two crimes involving rideshare platform drivers, a strong police presence was reported in a San Jose del Cabo hotel on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, it was near a hotel and may have involved a theft.

Additionally, in another unrelated incident, a man flagged for an incident involving a firearm was arrested at Los Cabos International Airport as well.

What Authorities Are Doing About It

Security is currently being enhanced in the areas where these incidents have taken place.

Even though an official statement has not been made regarding any of the crimes, police and ambulance presence was increased in these areas, according to reports on social media.

In the case of the hotel incident, it’s reported that arrests were made.

The Safety Of Tourists – A Priority For Los Cabos

Los Cabos is a vacation destination that gets millions of visitors every year, so image is important.

That means that the safety of tourists is a priority too, because if tourists see Los Cabos as safe they’ll continue to vacation in the destination.

Tourism has grown considerably over the last few years, which has required a response to addressing safety and security in busy tourist areas.

During the busiest times, security is almost always enhanced for exactly this reason.

Cabo San Lucas Or San Jose Del Cabo – Which Cape Is Safer?

Los Cabos, which translates to “the Capes,” is made up of two capes, Cape Saint Luke, which is better known to travelers as Cabo San Lucas, and Saint Joseph of the Cape, which is San Jose del Cabo.

When it comes to safety in Los Cabos, it’s not so much about which part is safer.

It comes down to the individual neighborhoods, just like anywhere else.

Safest Areas In Los Cabos

If you don’t know the areas in and around Los Cabos, then it’s better to stick to the tourist hotspots in both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.

In Cabo San Lucas, there is the marina area, Medano Beach, and downtown Cabo San Lucas.

In San Jose del Cabo, the safest areas are the hotel area, the marina, Old Town, and Plaza Mijares.

The Tourist Corridor that runs between the two places, where many of the best luxury resorts are located, is also a safe area.

If you stick to these areas during your visit, you’ll have no problem enjoying a safe Los Cabos vacation.
