With just days remaining until the start of the traditional festival celebration in Los Cabos, local officials are increasing the overall security in the area to ensure the safety of both visitors and locals enjoying the fun.
Celebration Security Measures
The Director of Public Security, Preventive Police, and Municipal Traffic of Los Cabos, Captain Cristopher López Monje, announced recently that streets will be closed, and additional vehicle controls will be in place surrounding the location of the Los Cabos festival.
Additionally, the municipal police department in Los Cabos will also step up the number of patrols in the area to ensure the safety and security of tourists enjoying the celebrations.
“Starting on the 16th we are going to start closing the main roads around the Los Cabos festival grounds. We are going to have two vehicle filters. Travelers will also be made aware of which objects they cannot bring into the area,” Captain Monje said.
Tourists should avoid bringing items into the area, such as pocketknives, nail trimmers, and other things with sharp edges.
Visitors are also advised that Centenario Avenue will be a one-way street during the festival celebration, which may impact travel times for tourists in the area.
Captain Monje asked that visitors to the area have patience while the additional security measures are in place to ensure their safety and security during the traditional festival celebrations.
Focus on Safety and Security
The announcement of the increased safety and security measures for travelers comes at the same time as the busy period of the spring holiday travel season in Los Cabos.
Local officials have committed to ensuring that travelers to Los Cabos feel safe and secure on their beach vacation getaway in the area despite some reports that may cause some to be concerned.
The United States Department of State maintains its tourist threat level at “exercise increased caution” in Baja California Sur, the state where Los Cabos is located, due to the level of crime.
They state that criminal activity and violence may occur throughout the state.
Safety Tips For Travelers
Several safety tips can be used by travelers when visiting Los Cabos during the traditional festival celebrations that coincide with the spring holiday travel period.
First, do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive watches or jewelry to the celebration or while enjoying the local restaurants and beaches.
Be extra vigilant when visiting banks or ATMs to take out cash for entrance fees and food and drinks during the busy travel period. Try to use banks during the day or select well-lit and trafficked locations in Los Cabos during the evening.
Visitors to Los Cabos should make it a priority to enroll in the United States Department of State Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) free alert program to receive critical travel updates and make it easier to locate them in an emergency.
Tourists should also be aware of their surroundings at all times in busy festival areas and know the easiest way to evacuate a location in the event of an emergency.
What Travelers Need to Know
Municipal officials in Los Cabos have prioritized the safety and security of travelers during the traditional festival celebration starting on March 16 and the busy upcoming spring holiday travel season.
They are aware of the current issues and escalation in crime levels and are focused on working with both state and federal government agencies to make sure travelers enjoy their vacation getaway to the popular beach resort destination of Los Cabos.
