These numbers are incredibly high and confirm the data according to which the popularity of this municipality keeps growing year after year.

Not by chance, Los Cabos is home to a variety of breathtaking beaches where tourists can enjoy a swim, try out water sports such as surfing, or simply sunbathe to soak up the warm sun typical of Los Cabos.

But what are some of the best beaches in the area?

Let’s start with a classic, El Medano Beach. Probably the most popular beach in Los Cabos, this stretch of land keeps attracting more and more tourists every year.

Starting from Cabo San Lucas, this beach extends for roughly two miles and is perfect for water sports such as kayaking and jet skiing. Several rental shacks offering the opportunity to try out these sports are located along the shore, together with restaurants serving delicious food.

At El Medano Beach, tourists can enjoy a refreshing drink, rent a kayak, or simply soak up the sun to make the most out of their Los Cabos vacation.

Lover’s Beach is another incredibly popular option among tourists. Located on the tip of Land’s End, this place is characterized by a stunning landscape due to the two rock formations emerging from the sea on both sides of the beach.

Tourists can only access this little corner of paradise by boat, either by catching a water taxi at the marina or getting one at El Medano Beach.

This beach is perfect for swimming as its waters are usually calm, making it the ideal spot for those who do not have lots of swimming experience.

Lastly, let’s talk about Chileno Beach. Another popular option, Chileno Beach, earned the ‘blue flag’ certification in 2015 for the cleanliness of its waters and the many services provided to tourists heading here.

This is another must-see for everyone heading to Los Cabos, perfect for snorkeling.

Are Los Cabos’ beaches safe?

But are Los Cabos beaches safe? The short answer is yes, but there is a ‘but’. Some Los Cabos beaches are not suitable for swimming due to the dangerous conditions of their waters.

Among these are Divorce Beach, Playa Solmar, and Pedregal Beach.

It’s important to also remember that some areas are only suitable for surfing but not bathing due to the strong currents present there. Among these are El Tule Beach, Playa Acapulquito, and Playa Costa Azul.

Despite this, tourists heading to Los Cabos shouldn’t worry too much. Flags are always present on beaches where swimming is not allowed, so tourists can know at all times whether entering the sea is safe or not.

Tourists should also keep in mind that, at times, even some of the swimmable beaches become dangerous to bathers.

This may be due to the presence of dangerous animals in the water or strong currents and waves.

In these cases, it’s fundamental to always pay attention to the flags placed on the beach to check whether access to the water is safe.

When red and black flags are present, people are not allowed to access the beach, while a yellow flag indicates a general danger and advises tourists to be extra careful. Lastly, white flags mean that dangerous animals, such as jellyfish, were found in the water.

More tourists mean more trash

Unfortunately, more tourists also mean more trash. Considering that over one million travelers visited Los Cabos beaches in 2023, it’s not surprising to learn that over 105 thousand trash bags were collected throughout the year. According to experts, this is equal to 1,300 kg of solid waste!

Thankfully, plenty of organizations were involved in cleaning initiatives. Some of these were organized by the local government while local non-profits planned others.

It is thanks to these services that the Los Cabos’ beaches remain clean all year round, providing tourists with amazing landscapes!
