Los Cabos has a reputation for world-class resorts, and the latest rankings seem to continue that trend. A ranking by Travel and Leisure ranked the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal as one of the best hotels in the world.
What are the rankings based on?
The rankings were released last week and put together by Travel and Leisure. They based the rankings on the “most trusted, best-loved hotels.” When considering hotels, T&L wanted to spotlight hotels that aren’t an afterthought of a vacation. They believe hotels can be a motivating reason for a vacation destination by itself.
Why does Pedregal stand out?
The Waldorf Astoria Pedregal is located in Cabo San Lucas, within walking distance of the strip. While the Pedregal is close to the main strip, it’s separated by a cliff, giving the hotel its own atmosphere. Your entrance to the hotel is a 1,000-foot tunnel, which opens up to the beach.
Once you reach the Waldorf, you realize how unique the location truly is. It is situated at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula and overlooks the Sea of Cortez, connecting with the Pacific Ocean. What makes the atmosphere more memorable is the hotel. The Waldorf is built into the side of the cliff, so all 119 suites have an ocean view.
If rare tequila and agave are your things, the Pedregal is a must stay. The hotel unveiled a bar concept centered around rare tequilas and mezcals called agave study. Located at the center of the property, the study looks down at three pools, a beach, and the pacific ocean. In the study itself, are the rarest tequilas and agave you will find in the world.
Another memorable setup is on the beach, where you will find a champagne bar overlooking the pacific. The bar is called Va y Viene and serves high-end champagne while sitting on your choice of 12 swings. Be prepared because you’re paying $90 a glass for this bar.
Other amenities at the hotel
After sipping on tequila or champagne, you can get some much-needed food at the celebrated restaurant, El Farallon. This restaurant is built into the cliff with great views, and you will have your choice of fresh spiny lobsters served grilled with drawn butter.
When looking for activities to take part in during the day, Pedregal has no shortage of options. The state-of-the-art gym has plenty of pelotons to choose from, or you can spend some relaxing time at the Waldorf Astoria Spa. You can also relax at the pool with fountains streaming down by the entrance, creating a memorable soaking area.

When staying at a world-class resort, it’s sometimes easy to get lost in all the extra amenities and forget about the suites themselves. That will be a tough ask at the Pedregal, where suites come with a plunge pool, fire pit, and two terraces. All of this may be secondary to the views of the Pacific Ocean that come with every suite.
For tourists making trips to Los Cabos soon, the Waldorf Astoria offers them world-class amenities and a fantastic location for a hotel.
However, if you’re looking for luxury with some better deals, that might be coming in the near future.
The Waldorf Astoria is another example of the luxury options Los Cabos is known for. The market isn’t slowing down for luxury in Los Cabos either, with nine new luxury resorts scheduled for development in the next few years. They will all try to follow the lead of the Waldorf Astoria.
