Just a couple of hours driving northeast of Cabo San Lucas, visitors will find a natural reserve that made the list of the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its stunning fauna.
Cabo Pulmo National Park has recently established itself as an ideal one-day trip destination for tourists visiting Los Cabos, and for good reasons!
Known as the ‘aquarium of the world,’ this magnificent natural park is home to a thriving coral reef and over 800 marine species ranging from turtles to dolphins and humpback whales.
Here, people can choose between admiring the oldest of the three coral reefs on the west coast of North America, getting acquainted with the many marine animals living in this little paradise on Earth, or spending an active day exploring the park either hiking, diving, or even rafting.
But why should tourists visit Cabo Pulmo National Park in autumn?
Here are 4 top reasons why visitors should spend a day or two in this remarkable national park during the fall season.
Ideal weather for hiking
Fall in Baja California Sur has the ideal weather conditions for long hiking days.
With the end of the hurricane season, tourists can spend their time exploring this natural reserve without the fear of getting caught in the rain.
On top of this, compared to the summer months, fall temperatures tend to be lower.
This allows tourists to visit the area without having to constantly deal with the sweat, burning sun, and dehydration.
Turtles hatching season
Those interested in animals will be pleased to know that the beginning of the fall is the ideal season to see young turtles hatching and running toward the ocean to start their new, exciting lives.
August and September are the best months to witness this unique phenomenon, but young turtles also break out from their tiny eggs even in November.
Turtles may be the cutest animals in Cabo Pulmo National Park, but they are surely not the only ones.
Autumn is also perfect for divers wanting to experience the thrill of swimming next to the massive whale sharks, which, despite their name, tend to be extremely docile creatures.
Fewer crowds
Another great reason to visit Cabo Pulmo National Park during the fall is that this is the low season in Los Cabos.
This means higher chances of booking your dream accommodation.
The area surrounding the park is, in fact, home to several hotels, resorts, and camping sites, but given the rising popularity of Los Cabos, it is getting more and more difficult for tourists to book their favorite place.
Visitors heading here in the fall will have way more options when booking as this is one of the months with fewer tourists in Los Cabos, meaning that most accommodations will still have rooms available.
Of course, the other great positive side of visiting Cabo Pulmo National Park during the low season is that you will have way fewer tourists crowding every corner of the park.
This means long hikes meeting only a few fellow travelers along the way and solitary diving adventures.
Great water conditions for diving
Last but not least, autumn is characterized by ideal diving conditions, with great water visibility and temperatures. Divers will be able to spot animals up to 40 to 80 feet away, a massive difference compared to the usual visibility ranging from 20 to 50 feet.
Water temperature will also be ideal, ranging from 72°F to 82°F at the beginning of fall and from 75°F to 84°F towards mid-October and November. No need to wear a wetsuit to keep you warm!
But which marine creatures are tourists more likely to see in these months?
Apart from massive schools of jackfish, people are likely to spot some of the biggest schools of big-eyed jacks in the world, mobula rays, grunts, giant groupers, octopuses, and gigantic bull sharks!
