7 Of The Best Things To Do In Los Cabos According To Travel Experts

Share The Article

It is easy to get stuck in the “Pool Loop” in Cabo—that dangerous cycle where you never leave your resort lounger.

But if you want to actually see Baja, you need a plan.

The editors at Travel + Leisure recently released their curated list of the best things to do in Los Cabos.

The arch point (El Arco) at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Our team at The Cabo Sun sometimes rolls our eyes at these national lists (which often recommend tourist traps), but this one is right on the money. They nailed the mix of luxury, nature, and culture.

We curated 7 of the essentials on their list, along with insider notes on how to do each one right.

1. Experience A World-Class Spa

Cabo has quietly become the spa capital of Latin America. We aren’t just talking about a massage tent on the beach; we are talking about architectural marvels.

  • The Expert Pick: Skip the generic hotel massage. Go to The Well at Chileno Bay (for a holistic, modern approach) or the Waldorf Astoria Pedregal Spa (famous for its “curanderismo” treatments based on Mexican folk healing).
  • Pro Tip: Book your treatment for 4:00 PM so you can use the hydrotherapy pools during sunset.

2. Go On A Whale-Watching Tour

If you are here between December and April, this is non-negotiable you must book. Humpback and Gray whales migrate thousands of miles to breed in our bays.

  • The Reality: You don’t need a private yacht. The whales often breach right next to the small “panga” boats.
  • Pro Tip: Look for “Blue Flag” certified tour operators who respect the whales’ space. If a boat chases a whale, they are breaking the law. Read our Whale Season guide here.

3. Sail To Land’s End At Sunset

Arch Sunset

The “Arch” is the Eiffel Tower of Cabo. You have to see it, but how you see it matters.

  • The Mistake: Going at noon. The light is harsh, and it is crowded with water taxis.
  • The Fix: Book a sunset cruise. The light hits the rock formations (specifically “The Friars”) and turns them golden-orange.
  • The Boat: For a party vibe experience, look at Pez Gato. For a super luxe vibe, check out Tu Enamorado (a stunning wooden sailboat).

4. Enjoy Farm-to-Table Dining

Travel + Leisure rightly points out that the best food in Cabo isn’t on the ocean—it’s in the foothills.

  • The Holy Trinity: The three big players are Flora Farms, Acre, and Los Tamarindos.
  • What to Expect: These are working organic farms. The food travels zero miles.
  • Pro Tip: Arrive an hour early to have a cocktail at the Farm Bar at Flora Farms. It is arguably the best social scene in San José.

5. Walk The San José del Cabo Art Walk

Officialy every Thursday evening (November–June), the main streets of San José close to traffic. However, UN-officially, it happens all year round. We went in the ‘off season’ and still had an amazing time.

  • The Vibe: It isn’t a rowdy street party. It is sophisticated. Galleries open their doors, serving wine and mezcal. You will hear live jazz and classical guitar on the corners.
  • The Route: Start at Plaza Mijares and work your way back through the Gallery District.

6. Explore The Towns & Villages

Baja California Sur is massive, and the “real” Mexico lies just outside the tourist corridor.

  • Todos Santos: An hour north. It’s a “Pueblo Mágico” known for surfing, art, and the Hotel California.
  • Santiago: An hour north-east. Known for its oasis and the Sol de Mayo waterfall (a freshwater swimming hole in the middle of the desert).

7. Visit Cabo Pulmo

This is the heavy hitter for nature lovers. Cabo Pulmo is a National Marine Park about two hours from Cabo.

  • Why go: It is home to the only hard coral reef in the Sea of Cortez. Jacques Cousteau called it the “Aquarium of the World.”
  • The Experience: It is rustic. There are no high-rise hotels. You go there to snorkel with massive schools of Jackfish and see Bull Sharks. It is the best snorkeling in Baja, period.
