Los Cabos is such a popular destination that airlines are consistently adding new routes here throughout the year.

While the primary tourists tend to be from the U.S. or Canada, many Mexican residents see Cabo as a vacation spot too.

Mexico’s top airlines all fly to Los Cabos domestically. It may not often be on the radar of Americans, but many Mexican airlines offer flights to Cabo from the U.S. as well.

Those unfamiliar with Mexico’s airlines, the main 3 are:

  • Aeromexico
  • Volaris
  • Viva Aerobus

All 3 can take American passengers to the beach vacation of their dreams. Not to mention, the new airline launching soon run by the Mexican military – Mexicana de Aviación.

Americans don’t need to consider this airline for now as it will only fly within Mexico for the foreseeable future.

However, U.S.-based airlines fly to Cabo directly as well. So, why consider taking an Mexican airline to Cabo?

Here are 4 reasons why:

New Aviation Safety Upgrade

Just this week, Mexico’s airlines have been given the highest of praise from the U.S. Their airlines have been reclassified by the FAA from a Category 2 designation to a Category 1.

That may just seem like aviation jargon, but it’s super important. Now, more flights will be able to fly all over Mexico, which in all likelihood, will result in cheaper prices.

Cabo could definitely use cheaper prices, right? Travelers will benefit greatly from a plethora of flight options from Mexico-based airlines.

Plus, isn’t it nice to know they have the highest safety rating possible? Look beyond Southwest and the others and see if there is a better option for you.

Flights May Be Cheaper

More flights haven’t been added just yet, with the new safety rating just being announced. But since we know Mexico’s airlines are just as safe as anywhere else, why not take advantage of lower fares?

Aeromexico may stand out the most with its namesake, but Volaris is actually Mexico’s most popular airline.

There’s nothing wrong with taking Aeromexico, as the carrier offers multiple nonstop flights to Mexico’s top destinations from the U.S., including Los Angeles (LAX) to Cabo (SJD).

Volaris and Viva Aerobus (sometimes known simply as Viva) are budget airlines based in Mexico City In Monterrey.

As such, you are more likely to have a layover in one of these 2 cities, or perhaps another. But don’t let that deter you just yet.

You have to ask yourself: are you booking a certain flight for convenience, or are you booking it to save money?

If your answer is the ladder, then chances are Volaris and Viva may be for you. Both airlines offer crazy sales throughout the year with jaw-dropping prices.

Flight Subscription

American travelers may be familiar with travel subscriptions ranging from Frontier’s GoWild! Pass to Margaritaville’s Ultimate Paradise Pass.

But did you know Volaris offers a flight subscription too with unlimited flights to Cabo? Their Annual Pass offers some enticing benefits if you see yourself hitting the beach as much as possible.

For $499 per year, that seems like a steal for what may be the total cost of your flight with a U.S.-based carrier.

Is it too good to be true? It depends on what you’re looking for. Travelers will definitely have a layover flying to Los Cabos. Every good deal has fine print, but Volaris is very open with the terms and conditions.

It’s best to read through the rules and requirements before purchasing, such as 3 days advance notice for international trips.

Easy Flight Financing

Not only can you potentially save money by taking a Mexican airline, but you can finance it with low monthly payments if you choose.
