Despite a slight decline in the number of travelers flying through Los Cabos in the month of May, the overall occupancy level was strong during the month, and the average room rate remained high at $570 per night.
Busy Non-Peak April in Los Cabos
Overall, Los Cabos finished with more than 70 percent of all the hotel rooms in the beach resort vacation destination full during the month of April.
The Los Cabos occupancy results in April this year were a little different this year due to when the peak Spring holiday season took place.
Last year, the Easter holiday was on April 9. That meant the entire Spring peak holiday travel period was in April.
This year, Easter was on March 31, which meant the entire peak Spring holiday travel period fell during the month of March.
“At the beginning of the year it was mentioned that it would be a year with many more challenges than last year, when we were registering greater growth,” said Los Cabos hotel industry spokesperson Lilzi Orcí Fregoso. “Registering 73% was reaching the same figures we registered last year [in April], which is very good.
Current bookings reveal that the percentage of occupied hotel rooms in Los Cabos should be about 72 percent in May.
This is three to four percentage points higher than the results from last year.
Busy Resorts, High Rates
As a result of the strong demand for hotel rooms in Los Cabos, the room rate remained high for travelers during the month of April with an average nightly rate of $570 per night.
Compared with last year at this time, the average nightly room rate in the beach resort destination of Los Cabos is 10 percent higher this year.
Experts expect that rate to continue for most of the year with a potential for a slight decrease possible in the middle of the summer due to the heat, humidity and potential hurricane and tropical storm threat.
How to Save Money
Even with the high hotel room rates, visitors to Los Cabos can use some travel tips to potentially save some money on their upcoming vacation getaway.
First, book ahead.
While this seems simple, reports show that vacation getaways to Los Cabos are typically booked only a couple of weeks out of the travel date.
Rooms should be booked instead a couple of months out.
In fact, if travelers are looking to come to Los Cabos for the fall and winter busy season, the window for booking rooms in Los Cabos is right now for the best rates.
Second, consider all lodging options. Don’t forget to add vacation rentals and all-included resorts in the search.
Vacation rentals traditionally have been cheaper than hotel rooms in Los Cabos. Again, at least consider them in the search process.
Surprisingly, all-inclusive resorts can also provide a good deal when an entire budget is looked at instead of simply looking for low hotel room rates. It’s important for tourists to consider all options.
Last, look for seasonal deals.
This one is increasingly becoming a challenge in Los Cabos as what was previously considered the “slow season” is not as slow anymore.
Traditionally, hotel room rates are lower outside the peak spring, fall, and winter seasons.
Yes, that means the hot and humid summer is the best opportunity for any possible seasonal deals.
What Travelers Need to Consider
The popularity of Los Cabos as a premier beach resort vacation hotspot remains strong and demand for hotel rooms outstrips the supply.
That’s why the rooms are priced accordingly.
However, planning ahead and following the three tips can potentially save tourists a few dollars on their upcoming beach day in the sun, sand, and surf of Los Cabos.
