Why Los Cabos Is So Much More Than A Cruise Destination

For many visitors, a trip to Baja California means a cruise ship trip from Long Beach, San Pedro, or San Diego in California down the peninsula with a stop in Los Cabos.

However, Los Cabos has so much more to offer than just a port of call on a cruise ship vacation.

Port of Call Los Cabos

Don’t get us wrong, cruises are a great way to travel. For visitors to Mexico who want to see different parts of the country without unpacking and changing hotels or taking day trips, it’s a great vacation getaway.

That’s a big benefit for travelers to Los Cabos. The “resort” moves instead of the traveler having to change resorts.

Visitors can see a different destination every day as the cruise ship moves along the Mexican coast. In addition to Los Cabos, visitors may also be able to explore ports like Ensenada, Mazatlan, or even Puerto Vallarta.

Some cruises are responding to requests from travelers and now allowing two-day stayovers in Los Cabos.

Cruise ships headed for Los Cabos may also have the same amenities as the world-class resorts, such as large swimming pools, fitness rooms, nightclubs, fine dining, and even movie theaters and entertainment.

For those who don’t like to fly, cruises to Los Cabos don’t involve getting to the airport two hours before the flight, checking in luggage, and going through passport checks before leaving for the beach resort destination.

Many cruises are considered all-inclusive vacations, similar to all-inclusive resorts in Los Cabos, while others may exclude purchases for alcohol, shows, ports of call fees, specialty dining, and other fees.

Destination Resort Los Cabos

On the other hand, a destination resort is a truly different experience for travelers to Los Cabos.

It’s a better option for someone who would like to spend more time than just a couple of hours in Los Cabos, truly learning more about the food and culture of the area.

For those looking to spend some time on the beach, there is the option for more time, or multiple days, of beach time by booking a resort vacation getaway in Los Cabos. Most cruise ships have pools instead of sandy beaches.

Resort hotels offer some of the same great amenities as the popular Baja California cruise ships. Because cruise ships are typically more compact than sprawling resort properties, they can feel more crowded for some travelers.

When visitors decide to stay at a resort property in Los Cabos, they are generally fixed in one location. However, they have more flexibility to pick and choose other destinations at their will instead of simply where the cruise ship stops on a port of call.

When it comes to all-inclusive amenities, both cruise ships and all-inclusive resorts in Los Cabos have similar offerings.

However, some Los Cabos amenities, such as championship golf courses, sport fishing, and snorkeling often are not available aboard a cruise ship.

In the past, both touted that they had adults-only features which made it convenient for those not wanting to be with children and families. However, both cruise ships and resort properties in Los Cabos currently offer that now common travel feature.

When it comes to the all-important factor of pricing, typically, all-inclusive reports tend to cover more amenities than cruise ships. However, travelers should be careful to ensure the amenities they truly value are incorporated into the price.

Making the Decision

Ultimately, Los Cabos visitors can’t go wrong with either a resort or cruise vacation getaway.

It really depends on the choice of the visitor to spend more time in Los Cabos and get to truly know the food, culture and traditions of the city or the desire to have shorter visit with city excursions during the vacation.

Travelers selecting a cruise-style vacation spending just a couple of hours in Los Cabos may truly feel that they really did not get enough time to visit and enjoy one of the top beach resort destinations in Mexico.

To really enjoy a vacation getaway in Los Cabos, it’s better to opt for a land-based resort-style trip, spending several days in the city and venturing to other nearby towns while exploring local amenities.

Los Cabos truly is a lot more than just a cruise ship port of call.
