There’s a new group transportation option available for Los Cabos visitors.
However, many may already be familiar with it from other places around the world. Tourists can now opt for an Uber XL to catch a ride for a small group of four to six people.
Los Cabos Tourist Demand Launched Uber XL
The popular ride-sharing app Uber is responding to the needs of Los Cabos tourists by providing the new upgraded service to carry small groups of guests to places around the beachside resort destination.
The change was made in response to tourists traveling to Los Cabos in smaller groups for the peak spring season.
The need for Uber XL in the Los Cabos area is due to the growth of both family and friends group travel. A normal Uber can only fit four passengers comfortably.
According to Uber Communications Manager for Mexico Esteban Illades, Uber wants to be a partner for the growth and expansion of tourism in Los Cabos and launched the new enhanced ride-share service in response to customer demand for larger passenger vans and SUVs.
The vehicles selected for the Uber XL service in Los Cabos will not only provide more comfortable and safe seating options for small groups of passengers but also provide more trunk space.
Uber XL also enables a small group of passengers to ride to a destination together while being able to split the fare. In effect, Illades said that riders actually benefit by paying less for the ride-share service.

Actions To Reduce Los Cabos Traffic
Additionally, with the traffic issues in the tourist areas currently being experienced in Los Cabos due to the increase of peak spring season visitors, the new Uber XL service actually encourages carpooling.
This is especially important with the constant transportation of spring visitors not only to tourist destinations around Los Cabos but also between the resort corridor and the airport. Though, travelers should note that taking an Uber to and from the airport can be restricted or completely unavailable.
Recently, traffic lines of five miles and more have been reported at the toll booths on the Transpeninsular Highway, the vital roadway link between Los Cabos and the international airport.
The idea of the launch of Uber XL is to help reduce the total number of vehicles on the roads and hopefully improve the general traffic flow for all Los Cabos locals and visitors.
Effect On Local Uber Drivers
According to Illades, Los Cabos is the ideal resort destination for the upgraded Uber XL service, and said drivers are excited about the opportunity.
Uber XL, just like the rest of Uber services, allows drivers the flexibility to schedule their rides and take care of customer needs, including those for larger vehicles.
In the past, some drivers were actually upset because they could not accommodate the small group passenger requests nor had the ability to help riders split the fare.
Because of this, many of the small group requests were shifting over to taxis and other ride-share services prior to the launch of the Uber XL during the peak spring travel season.
Potential For More Los Cabos Uber Enhancements
Uber recently launched a service targeting airport ride-share services in the United States and select international destinations. The new service enables passengers to locate their ride at an airport location more easily.
It also provides maps of high-traffic airports around the world with the location for rideshare pick up and drop off easily located.
While the service is available in some worldwide locations, it is not available for Los Cabos visitors at this time.
Meanwhile, the new Uber XL group ride-share service in Los Cabos officially launched last Friday and has already been popular with tourists riding the popular ride-share service in the area.
