One of the biggest headaches cited by travelers to Los Cabos is simply trying to get from Los Cabos International Airport to the tourist corridor via the Libramiento Highway.

However, improvements are on the way with a $91 million peso ($5.35 million dollar) investment from the federal Mexican government.

Toll Booth Improvements

The federal government announced recently that it plans to complete a series of expansion improvements to toll collection plaza number 195 located on the Libramiento Highway at the Los Cabos International Airport.

Initial project reports call for the addition of three lanes at the toll booth, restrooms for visitors, a parking lot and solar panels for electricity production.

Need For Enhancements

The toll booth expansion is not only being completed to provide additional facilities for visitors to Los Cabos, but hopefully help speed them along on the highway.

The additional parking spaces will provide guests to Los Cabos with a convenient restroom location between the tourist corridor and the airport.

This is a travel distance of 42.5 kilometers (26.5 miles) from Cabo San Lucas, taking approximately 30 minutes during light traffic.

Additionally, the solar panels provide a reliable source of electricity for the toll booth, ensuring that the facility can function for visitors, even during the recent blackouts in Los Cabos.

Travel Infrastructure Upgrades Underway

The improvements at the toll collection booth near the Los Cabos Airport are only one of many much-needed tourist infrastructure upgrades that are happening in the area.

Los Cabos International Airport

The Los Cabos International Airport recently completed a 2,000 square meter increase to the tourist shopping area in the airport.

This provides guests with more opportunities to enjoy their wait at the airport by leisurely strolling the shopping areas.

They also recently completed an expansion of the waiting area around the most utilized gates by an additional 30 percent.

This provided visitors to Los Cabos additional locations to sit and relax before returning home after their vacation to the beach resort destination.

These recent additions demonstrate the desire of the airport to try to keep up with the demand from an increasing number of airline passengers to Los Cabos.

It also shows work towards keeping up with the demands from passengers for increasing amenities and facilities in and around the airport.

Other recently announced potential future projects include an additional terminal in addition to an additional runway for arrivals and departures.

Becoming a World Class Destination

The work being done to the airport area is an effort to shape Los Cabos into more of a world-class destination.

Shedding the image of a sleepy small beach town, Los Cabos is evolving into more of a luxury destination and the amenities need to keep up with the change in traveler perception.

However, this year, government officials, the Los Cabos Tourism Trust and the Los Cabos International Airport have been playing catch up with the world-class evolution process.

The result has been recent power outages and traffic on roads around the tourist corridor and on the highway between the airport and hotel zone.

This has resulted in traveler complaints about the lack of infrastructure needed for a world-class luxury resort destination.

More Infrastructure Services For Visitors

As the improvements continue, guests will be able to enjoy enhancements to improve their overall experience and satisfaction with a vacation in Los Cabos.

Some of the additions and improvements may be behind the curve, and others may take additional time to complete, but the work to improve the infrastructure in Los Cabos is definitely moving forward.

The local, state, and federal governments appear to be standing behind working together to help Los Cabos make the evolution to a world-class beach luxury destination.
