Finding where to stay in your Cabo vacation is going to heavily influence whether your vacation will be a success or not.
What many people are finding with the growing luxury all-inclusive hotel model in Cabo is that you’re getting the bad side of all-inclusive hotels as well as the upside.
At a high price tag, that may make you rethink your choice of staying at that particular hotel.
Oddly enough, Grand Velas, which has boasted the best luxury all-inclusive hotel in Mexico for 2 years running, according to Forbes magazine, has developed a boutique hotel concept for travelers who are looking for an even more exclusive experience than the one that they can get at their flagship hotel.
Mar del Cabo is Grand Velas’ take on a boutique hotel, and it seems to have plenty of things to offer.
The Size Of The Resort Helps You Avoid The Crowds
Mar del Cabo is a hotel with less than 50 rooms. This means that the hotel restaurant, the pool area, and virtually all of the amenities you can enjoy within the resort won’t be crowded.
Even on days when the hotel is fully booked. The Grand Velas Hotel is arguably one of the best resorts in all of Cabo, but guests will still have to deal with crowds, particularly during the peak season.
Mar del Cabo helps guests avoid that problem.

An Old School Vibe
There’s a lot of tile used in the halls and different parts of the rooms at this hotel. These designs create an old-school vibe throughout the hotel.
This is how Off Path Enterprises CEO Kahslee Kucheran, who visited the hotel, described her experience,
“I was instantly transported back to the 70s in a setting that reminded me more of Greece than Mexico. I found myself singing ABBA’s Mamma Mia as I walked through the Mediterranean-mood corridors. I got massive nostalgia when I saw the amber-colored corded glass lamp in my room.”
Private Resort Pool Plus Grand Velas Amenities
Mar del Cabo has its own pool and even an on-site restaurant that’s for the exclusive use of guests at the hotel. Guests at Mar del Cabo do have access to the amenities offered at the larger Grand Velas resort.
This is great news, particularly for those travelers that are looking to take full advantage of the wellness center at the Grand Velas. It is, without a doubt, one of the highlights of the main resort.
As a guest at Mar del Cabo, you can book spa treatments and full-on experiences just like a guest at the main Grand Velas resort can.
You’ll be driven via a golf cart to the main resort to be able to enjoy the services that you booked. The same is true of restaurants and the Grand Velas.
Guests at Mar del Cabo can reserve tables at spots within the main resort. In many ways, you’re getting the same amenities, but you have the option to retreat to your private wing of the resort.
Large, Uniquely Designed Suites Make Up The Hotel
The hotel is designed to ensure that entrances to the different rooms are not bunched up together. In fact, for the most part, stairs or full hallways are going to separate your room from your closest neighbor.
There are two benefits to this. Number one is the size of the rooms. The smallest suite available is 610 square feet, with plenty of room to spread out.
On top of the size, the fact that the hotel actively tries to “hide” the entrance to other rooms creates an extra sense of privacy that guests appreciate.
Although the massive presence of tiles gives guests the sense that they are in the Greek isles, the Mexican pottery used as decor in the rooms is a nice reminder of where you really are.
Of course, the majestic views of the Pacific Ocean that some of the suites have also help to confirm that this is one of the best spots for a private Cabo getaway.
