There’s a new luxury hotel option available for travelers to Baja California Sur.
The Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés is now open in the state capital of La Paz and was designed to provide travelers with a resort-style feel in a convenient neighborhood setting.
The Neighborhood Hotel
Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés is the latest hotel to open in the region which includes Los Cabos.
The new Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés has 115 rooms and is located north of La Paz near Punta Prieta off of Mexico Federal Highway 11.
The property has a white sand beach club, lap pool, two restaurants, and a fully equipped gym onsite for guests.
Travelers to the hotel also can enjoy some of the nearby water activities, such as boating, kayaking, snorkeling, and scuba diving, by connecting with a boat tour at the adjacent Marina Costa Baja.
Golfers also can tee off at the nearby Gary Player Signature Golf Club El Cortés.
The Hotel Indigo Brand
This is the first Hotel Indigo property located near Los Cabos and follows in the footsteps of a new Hotel Indigo in Guadalajara.
“We are excited to arrive in La Paz and to bring an elevated lifestyle stay experience to this cherished paradise that has captured the hearts of so many,” said Carol Hoeller, Vice President of Hotel Indigo in a company press release.
Travelers who are not familiar with the Indigo hotel brand may be more familiar with its parent company, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). IHG is better known for its Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands, one of which is open in Los Cabos.
Evolution of La Paz
The opening of the new resort-style Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés is the latest in the evolution of La Paz into a beach travel destination in its own right.
What used to be a town where travelers went to swim with whale sharks on a day trip adventure is now becoming a place to stay and spend some time in an emerging resort town as well.
While many will say that La Paz is simply too far away, the Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés being more than two and a half hours away from Los Cabos International Airport, plans are underway to change that.
Recently, the La Paz International Airport announced that it is working on reviving international flights to the airport from the United States.
Plans to restart flights to Los Angeles on Volaris were underway. However, the airline is facing issues with a Pratt and Whitney engine recall which could delay the start of those flights.
While La Paz initially decided to focus on more domestic travel and leave international travel to Los Cabos, those plans could soon change and make La Paz more of a small-town rival to Los Cabos.
What Travelers Need to Know
Travelers seeking an alternative to Los Cabos will like having an alternative in La Paz as more resorts and luxury accommodations come on board for visitors.
It will make it easier for travelers who like some of the popular nature excursions available in the town – such as the very popular swimming with whale sharks – to stay in La Paz.
A complement to Los Cabos, the two towns can easily provide travelers with two different and very unique experiences to enjoy a getaway to Baja California Sur.
However, the eventual restart of international flights will be essential for that to occur. It definitely is a challenge to fly to Los Cabos for a vacation getaway in La Paz.
Who knows, in the future, some travelers may see Los Cabos as a road trip destination for their beach resort vacation in La Paz.
