Recently a local news outlet ran a survey to see which Los Cabos beach was the favorite of local residents.

To the surprise of many, the beach that came out on top was none other than Playa Palmilla. This beach is located in San Jose del Cabo, and it’s perhaps more well-known by tourists because of the One and Only Palmilla resort that takes up part of the beach.

The part of the beach that locals like the most is the public area that’s to the east of the resort towards the San Jose del Cabo downtown area.

For starters, the beach is one of the many Cabo beaches that have obtained the famed Blue Flag certification.

In fact, one of the main reasons that locals gave to justify picking it as the best beach was that, in their eyes, it’s the cleanest beach in Cabo

Another reason why locals like this particular beach is because it’s typically not as crowded as other more popular beaches like El Medano or even Lover’s Beach near the Los Cabos arch.

One of the locals who participated in the survey mentioned that you have to walk quite a bit to get to Palmilla Beach, which could be one of the reasons why it isn’t as crowded as other spots.

Palmilla Beach usually has plenty of parking space, but as this anonymous local pointed out, the parking area isn’t right next to the beach.

Certain Types of Tourists Could Also Really Enjoy This Beach

Locals typically enjoy these types of beaches because they are calm places where you can lay out a towel and have a nice picnic by the beach.

You can do so without having the hectic atmosphere that places like El Medano have. At El Medano, you’ll likely have vendors trying to sell you anything from food to jet ski rides every couple of minutes.

This calmer atmosphere that Playa Palmilla offers can also be appealing to tourists. Particularly those who are staying at a nearby Airbnb or hotel with no beach access.

There are also rental homes in the area that have direct access to Palmilla Beach. In fact, one of the best deals that you can currently find on Airbnb for Cabo lodging is a home that’s located within the Playa Palmilla shoreline.

As stated by the locals who participated in the survey, access to the beach may not be as easy. That’s why the area is typically not as crowded.

However, for those looking for a break from the crowds, the journey is worth it!

Other Beaches Locals Like That Tourists Could Enjoy

The beach known as “La Playita” in San Jose del Cabo was another surprise local favorite, according to the survey.

This is more of a small bay that’s enclosed by man-made barriers. It’s located near Saint Luke’s Hospital in the main San Jose del Cabo hotel zone.

Waves Not Hitting The Beach Thanks To Man Made Barriers

People like this particular beach pretty much for the same reasons as they like Playa Palmilla.

Since it’s enclosed by the man-made barriers we previously mentioned, practically no waves reach the shore, making it the perfect spot for families with small children.

They can feel comfortable allowing kids to splash around near the shore because the water is so calm.

Another beach that was mentioned in the survey was Playa Chileno. Much like Playa Palmilla most tourists are going to recognize the beach because of the popular Chileno Bay resort.

Playa Chileno even made our list of the calmest beaches in Cabo.

The sea is typically calm because the beach is located near large rock formations that block waves from hitting the shore too hard.

The problem with this particular beach is that it’s typically a bit rockier than some of the other options that you’ll find in Cabo.

In spite of this, its inclusion on the list of favorites clearly shows that locals like calm beaches with not as many people roaming around, and tourists looking for some peace and quiet would be wise to follow in their footsteps.
