The winter travel season is rapidly approaching, and airlines are aggressively expanding their schedules to get North American travelers down to the beach as quickly as possible. Los Cabos has evolved into one of the absolute most in demand vacation hotspots in the world. Travelers are tired of dealing with freezing temperatures at home, and they are equally tired of dealing with annoying layovers just to get to the sunshine.

Airlines are finally listening. We are seeing a massive wave of new flight connectivity heading to the Baja California peninsula this winter. However, if you read the travel news closely, you will notice that not all “new” flights are created equal. Some airlines are simply adding their planes to routes that already exist. While that is great for competition, the real excitement comes from the truly brand new routes.
If you live in one of these specific markets, your winter getaway just got significantly easier. Here is a complete breakdown of the three cities getting their first ever nonstop flights to Los Cabos, plus a look at the cities getting some much needed airline competition.

The Truly New Nonstop Routes
These three cities are making aviation history this winter. Historically, travelers departing from these airports were forced to deal with frustrating connections and entirely wasted travel days. Now, you can fly straight to the Pacific coast without a single layover.
Regina (YQR)
Anyone who lives in Saskatchewan knows exactly how brutal the winter months can be. When the temperatures drop, people desperately want to escape to Mexico. Until now, travelers flying out of Regina had to connect through major hubs like Calgary or Vancouver. That completely changes when WestJet officially launches its brand new route on December 14, 2026. This marks the first ever direct connection between Saskatchewan and Los Cabos. The convenience of skipping the layover is going to make this a massively popular route for Canadian vacationers looking for a quick and easy beach escape.

Ottawa (YOW)
It is incredibly surprising that Canada’s capital city has gone this long without a direct link to one of Mexico’s premier luxury destinations. Thankfully, Porter Airlines is stepping up to fix that exact problem. On December 18, 2026, Porter will introduce the first nonstop option flying from Ottawa straight to Los Cabos. Porter Airlines has been rapidly expanding its network, and adding this direct route gives travelers in the capital region a flawless, premium economy experience straight to the sunshine. You can wake up freezing in Ottawa and be drinking a margarita at a beach club by the afternoon.’

Cancun (CUN)
This is arguably the most exciting new route of the entire year for travelers who love exploring Mexico. Historically, there has never been a regular nonstop flight between the country’s two biggest beach destinations. If you wanted to visit both the Caribbean side and the Pacific side on the same trip, you had to take a connecting flight through Mexico City or Guadalajara. Volaris is completely changing the game by launching a brand new domestic link on December 1, 2026. This historic route connects Cancun directly to Los Cabos. Instead of a grueling seven hour travel day, you can now bounce between the two iconic coastal hubs in just about four hours.
More Competition Means Better Prices
While those three cities are getting their first ever direct links, several other major hubs are getting some fantastic news as well. Several airlines are launching “new” routes out of cities that already have nonstop service to Los Cabos. Why should you care? Because when a new airline enters an existing market, the added competition forces everyone to lower their ticket prices.
Toronto (YYZ) and Edmonton (YEG) Travelers flying out of Toronto and Edmonton already have a ton of great options, with Air Canada, WestJet, and Sunwing offering robust nonstop service. However, Porter Airlines is aggressively jumping into the mix for both cities starting on November 16, 2026. Porter is famous for offering free beer, wine, and premium snacks in economy class. Their entry into the Toronto and Edmonton markets will force the legacy carriers to keep their prices highly competitive throughout the peak winter season.

Montreal (YUL) Montreal is another major Canadian hub getting a massive boost in competition. Air Canada and Sunwing already operate direct flights from Montreal to Los Cabos, but Air Transat is officially joining the party. Starting December 10, 2026, Air Transat will launch its own nonstop service. Having three different carriers fighting for passengers on the exact same route is the ultimate win for travelers hunting for cheap winter airfare.
Washington, D.C. (IAD) Travelers in the capital region of the United States are also seeing boosted connectivity. United Airlines is ramping up its seasonal nonstop flights out of Dulles International Airport. While this is fantastic for United loyalists, it is important to remember that Southwest Airlines already flies nonstop to Los Cabos from nearby Baltimore Washington International Airport. The added capacity from United just means more options and better scheduling flexibility for East Coast travelers.
