Rock Star Sammy Hagar To Return To Cabo Wabo Cantina This Year For Annual Birthday Bash

Anyone who has ever been to Los Cabos has probably at least seen the iconic Cabo Wabo Cantina, if not been there.   

The popular bar and restaurant is owned by rock star Sammy Hagar, who is preparing to return to Cabo Wabo Cantina this year for his annual Birthday Bash celebration.   

Scheduled for later this fall, this will be the rock legend’s 76th birthday and the 33rd Birthday Bash. 

History Of The Birthday Bash 

For most of the 32 years that Sammy Hagar has been holding his annual Birthday Bash, it has taken place at the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas.   

The exception has been only due to extenuating circumstances, like the Covid-19 pandemic and a couple of hurricanes that affected the area.   

In total, only four of his Birthday Bash events have taken place somewhere other than Cabo.

The 2023 Birthday Bash 

This year’s Birthday Bash will be held in October and will take place on three separate days, which include October 9th, 11th, and 13th.   

Tickets are sold to winners of individual drawings for each night’s shows.   

The deadline to buy those tickets has already passed but a smaller number of tickets will be sold at the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas on the day before each show.   

These tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis and are typically for sale from about noon that day.

Dedicated Fans Flock To Cabo San Lucas 

Despite the fact that Hagar’s Birthday Bash is miles away from home and in a completely different country, dedicated American fans of the rock star flock to Cabo San Lucas for the event.   

Known as “Redheads,” the fans of the musician buy up tickets to the annual bash almost as soon as they go on sale.   

And in prior years, fans have lined up to buy tickets at Cabo Wabo Cantina on the days prior to the event dates.

Sammy Hagar’s Love For Los Cabos 

Sammy Hagar first discovered his love for Los Cabos when he visited Cabo San Lucas for the first time in the 1980s.   

At that time, Cabo was just a little fishing village with only one real hotel in the area.   

Since then, Cabo San Lucas, and Los Cabos in general, has grown into an extremely popular vacation destination among both celebrities and tourists.

Sammy Hagar And The Cabo Wabo Cantina 

By Hagar’s second trip to Cabo San Lucas, the wheels were already turning, and he made the decision to open just a little tequila bar.   

What started off as an idea for a little place with a small stage for musicians to perform in 1990 grew much bigger than Hagar ever imagined.   

Today, it is a huge establishment where not only Sammy Hagar goes to perform, but other well-known musicians from the U.S. too.   

The Birthday Bash Events 

For the Birthday Bash events, Sammy Hagar usually performs with his backup band, the Waboritas, also known as the Wabos.   

Typically there are other well-known artists that perform, but no announcement has been made so far this year as to who might end up on that list.   

Some of the famous musicians that have shown up in the past, either to perform or just attend, include Iggy Pop, Dave Grohl, Bono, Joan Jett, and Stevie Wonder. 

Attending The Bash 

Tickets to the Birthday Bash are priced at $76, that’s $1 for every year of Sammy Hagar’s age.   

While there will only be a limited number of tickets sold before the shows, it’s worth trying to get them if you’ll be in Cabo San Lucas during that time.
