For decades, if you wanted high-heat luxury, celebrity chef dining, and $2,000-a-night suites, you flew to Miami. But the tide has turned.
While South Beach struggles with humidity, crowds, and traffic, Los Cabos has quietly built the most impressive collection of ultra-luxury resorts in the Western Hemisphere. We aren’t talking about standard “five-star” chain hotels. We are talking about the heavy hitters—Aman, Rosewood, Four Seasons, St. Regis, and Velas—all fighting for the same stretch of golden coastline.

At The Cabo Sun, we have watched the skyline change from dusty fishing outposts to architectural marvels. The shift is undeniable: The serious money is no longer going to Florida. It’s heading to the Baja.
Here is the definitive count of the 13 ultra-luxury properties that have put Cabo on the global throne—and the ones still being built.
The “All-Inclusive” heavyweights

In most parts of the world, “All-Inclusive” means watered-down drinks and buffet lines. In Cabo, it means Michelin stars and butler service.
- Grand Velas Los Cabos: This is the benchmark. With a restaurant (Cocina de Autor) that holds a Michelin star, this is where foodies go to get spoiled. Every suite is over 1,000 square feet.
- Grand Velas Boutique: Opened recently as the “little sister” next door. It’s adults-only, intimate (79 suites), and gives you access to the big resort while letting you sleep in silence.
- Le Blanc Spa Resort: If you want that “Miami Chic” white-linen vibe without the noise, this is it. The service here is borderline telepathic—your butler unpacks your bags before you finish your welcome drink.
The “Old Money” Icons

These are the resorts that put Cabo on the map. They don’t need to shout; their reputation does the heavy lifting.
- One&Only Palmilla: The Grand Dame. It has played host to everyone from John Travolta to Jennifer Aniston. It feels less like a hotel and more like a private colonial estate.
- Las Ventanas al Paraíso (Rosewood): The service here is legendary. They have a “Department of Romance” to plan engagements. It is understated, private, and incredibly expensive.
- Waldorf Astoria Pedregal: The entrance alone wins the prize—you drive through a private tunnel carved into the mountain to reach the lobby. It feels like a Bond villain’s lair in the best way possible.
- Esperanza (Auberge): Perched on the cliffs of Punta Ballena, this is rustic luxury. Think stone, wood, and crashing waves right below your balcony.
The New Guard (Open Now)

These properties have opened in the last few years, bringing a modern, architectural edge to the desert.
- Montage Los Cabos: Located on Santa Maria Bay (one of the few swimmable beaches), this is where the younger tech elite hang out. It’s modern, sleek, and the snorkeling is right off the shore.
- Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve: Hidden away in Puerto Los Cabos. This isn’t a normal Ritz; it’s a “Reserve,” meaning higher service levels, private plunge pools in almost every room, and total isolation.
- Four Seasons Resort at Costa Palmas: Located on the East Cape, an hour from the main airport. It is flat, swimmable, and completely removed from the “Cabo Corridor” chaos.
- Four Seasons Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol: Yes, we have two now. Opened in mid-2024, this property brings the “Hacienda” vibe to the famous Golden Corridor, sitting right in the heart of the action.

Coming Soon: The “Waitlist” Material
As if 11 world-class resorts weren’t enough, the construction cranes are still moving. These are the two future openings that will seal the deal.
Park Hyatt Los Cabos (Coming 2026)

Located at Cabo del Sol, this has been a long time coming. The Park Hyatt aims to bridge the gap between “luxury” and “modern functionality.” Expect sleek lines, a massive spa, and a focus on golf access.
Amanvari (Coming 2026/2027)
This is the endgame. Aman is the most exclusive hotel brand in the world. They are building “Amanvari” on the East Cape, tucked into an estuary. When this opens, the billionaires who find the Four Seasons “too crowded” will move here. It will feature ultra-private pavilions and a distinct “peaceful” aesthetic that is Aman’s signature.

The St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira (Coming 2026)
The newest major player. Located on the Pacific side within the Quivira development, it pairs the iconic St. Regis butler service with access to the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
The Verdict
Miami has the nightlife, but Cabo has the exclusivity. If you are looking for neon lights and crowded pools, stay in Florida. But if you want a 2,000-square-foot suite with a private plunge pool and a butler who knows your tequila order, the flight to SJD is the only one to book.
