LOS CABOS, MEXICO – October 10, 2025, 6:00 AM MST – Just as Los Cabos was returning to normal after the passing of Hurricane Priscilla, authorities have issued new alerts for the region as a new system, Tropical Storm Raymond, has formed in the Pacific. Both the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) and the U.S. Embassy in Mexico have issued warnings for travelers, prompting the declaration of a Tropical Storm Watch for the southern portion of the Baja California Peninsula, including the municipalities of La Paz and Los Cabos.

Here at The Cabo Sun, we are monitoring the situation closely. This is not a time for panic, but for awareness and caution. Here is a breakdown of the official warnings and what they mean for travelers on the ground.

The “One-Two Punch”: Why This Storm Poses a Unique Risk

Tropical Storm Watch Los Cabos

While Raymond is currently a tropical storm, authorities are treating it with particular seriousness due to the lingering effects of last week’s hurricane.

The primary concern, as highlighted by the U.S. Embassy, is the already waterlogged ground. The heavy rainfall from Hurricane Priscilla has left the ground saturated, which significantly increases the risk of flash flooding, landslides, and road washouts from the additional rainfall Raymond is expected to bring. This “one-two punch” of storms requires a higher level of caution than a single event might.

What The Official Alerts Mean for Travelers

Toprical Storm Watch NHS

1. The National Hurricane Center’s Tropical Storm Watch A “watch” means that tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 39 mph / 63 km/h or higher) are possible in the area, generally within the next 48 hours.

  • The Main Impact: The most significant and immediate threat for Los Cabos will be the ocean conditions. The NHC is forecasting “significant waves and riptides.” This means all beaches will be flying red or black flags, and swimming will be strictly forbidden.
  • Other Impacts: Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are also expected, particularly through Sunday.

The embassy’s message underscores the seriousness of the ocean conditions, with a stark reminder that dangerous surf in the past has “claimed the lives of multiple U.S. citizens.”
