LOS CABOS, MEXICO – October 7, 2025, 8:00 AM MST – Hurricane Priscilla rapidly intensified into a powerful Category 2 storm during the early morning hours on Tuesday, prompting authorities to issue a Tropical Storm Watch for the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, including the tourist hubs of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) and Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) are closely monitoring the storm, which is now on a path that will bring significant weather impacts to the Los Cabos region over the next 48 hours. Here at The Cabo Sun, we’re breaking down the latest official forecast and what it means for residents and tourists on the ground.
The Latest Forecast: Position and Strength
According to the most recent report from the NHC, the center of Hurricane Priscilla was located approximately 390 kilometers (245 miles) south of Cabo San Lucas. The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h (100 mph) and is moving northwest at a steady 17 km/h (10 mph).

While the storm’s center is currently forecast to pass offshore, its large size and proximity to land have necessitated the issuance of the Tropical Storm Watch. This means that tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 63 km/h or 39 mph or higher) are possible within the watch area within the next 48 hours.
What This Means for Los Cabos: The On-The-Ground Impacts
For those currently in Los Cabos, the primary effects will be felt from the storm’s outer bands, bringing dangerous sea conditions, rain, and wind.
1. The Ocean is The Biggest Danger 🌊 The most significant and dangerous impact will be the extremely large and powerful ocean swells generated by the hurricane.

- Port is Closed: The Port Captain has closed the Port of Cabo San Lucas to all small craft navigation. All boat-based tours, including fishing charters, sunset cruises, and water taxis to The Arch, are canceled until further notice.
- Dangerous Surf: Waves of 2 to 3 meters (6 to 10 feet) are expected to batter the coastline. This will create life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
- Beaches Closed: All beaches will be flying black flags, meaning they are closed to all activity. For your safety, you must stay out of the water and well away from the shoreline where rogue waves can be a danger.
