A new report came out a few weeks ago that confirmed the two places in Los Cabos that people worry the most about their safety.
According to the report, those two places are on public transportation and at ATMs.
And now, Los Cabos is preparing to enhance safety measures in both of these two areas that people feel most at risk.
The INEGI Report
The report, which was presented by the INEGI, also known as the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, polled locals about how safe they feel in Los Cabos.
The report determined that 75 percent of the individuals polled have an overall feeling of being safe in the destination.
But many of those same individuals said that there are a couple of places where they feel like their safety is more at risk.

Two Places People Feel Less Safe In Mexico
A total of 65.5 percent of the people polled in Mexico said that they don’t feel as safe when taking public transportation.
And 73 percent said that they feel less safe when visiting an ATM in the country.
These are each things that both locals and tourists use in Los Cabos, and authorities are taking action that will make people, locals and tourists alike, feel safer in both areas.

@elenaagarciaa1 Tip to Save Money: Don’t buy transportation from the airport (Cabos) they will charge you($60-$80 dollars). Instead take the bus (90 pesos, around 6 dollars). The ride is around 40-45 minutes and it goes around the city. It’s a public bus! Make sure you get off near your hostel/hotel #cabosanlucas #solotravel #travel ♬ Come With Me – Surfaces & salem ilese
The Numbers In Los Cabos
In Los Cabos specifically, the numbers regarding feelings of safety in these two destinations are not much better.
Nearly 30 percent of locals don’t feel safe using public transportation in Los Cabos, and almost 40 percent expressed that they feel unsafe when taking money out of an ATM.

New Safety Measures
As a way to improve the feeling of safety for those using ATMs or public transportation, different measures will be taken.
In the case of public transportation, the issues highlighted have to do mostly with harassment and road safety.
When it comes to using ATMs, the issue obviously has to do with worrying about being robbed.
The Director of Public Security, Captain Jesús Antonio Gómez Rodríguez, discussed how they intend to make both areas safer in a recent interview.
Public Transportation Safety Measures
The INEGI study does not discuss specifics of the feelings of unsafety on public transportation, but officials pointed to two possible contributors.
- Harassing language towards women, including lude behavior and obscene comments.
- The common occurrence of road accidents involving public transportation.
Mr. Rodriguez commented on what’s being done to enhance safety measures, stating that “Dialogues have been carried out through the transport table, and we are applying review operations for all these types of routes, through which with Transit we support each other so that the routes are taken safely so that the drivers of the same carriers respect the speed limits, respect the road and urban rules so that you have a good road education.”
ATM Safety Measures
When it comes to ATMs, the efforts will be concentrated on increasing security and detecting suspicious activity.
Mr. Rodriguez also commented on what will be done to enhance safety at ATMs.
He stated that “With regard to ATMs, we are obviously increasing the roundabouts. Likewise, there are also people who are going to make trips on the ground in the areas of banks in order to have greater monitoring, and the travel time to these areas is with enough time to give them the opportunity to visualize any irregularity or suspicious act.”
Safety Is Everyone’s Responsibility
Despite the fact that most of the public feels safe in Los Cabos, safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Public transportation should be chosen wisely, and traveling with other people improves safety overall, and you should always be aware of your surroundings when using an ATM.
The combination of taking responsibility for your own safety and the enhanced security measures will make Los Cabos continue to be the safe vacation destination it has become.
