It’s no secret that San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are popular vacation destinations and not only are these cities loved by tourists and celebrities but Los Cabos is rated as one of the top three places to vacation in Mexico. Located in the state of Baja California Sur, Los Cabos is known for being one of the safer places to vacation in the country. Tourists love the Cabo area for its warm weather, beautiful beaches, huge selection of all-inclusive resorts, and opportunities for water activities.
According to National Institute of Statistics, Geography, and Informatics information the designation of Los Cabos as one of the top destinations in Mexico comes from statistics. These statistics show that Los Cabos is one of the three favorite places for tourists to visit in Mexico. Additionally, the numbers show that Mexico as a whole is also the third most visited country in the world.
The popularity of both Los Cabos and Mexico has been on the rise particularly over the last couple of years, according to National Institute of Statistics and Geography figures. Currently, tourism in these cities specifically, is two times higher than it was in 2020 and 2021. And popularity continues to grow, as evidenced by the strong hotel occupancy even during September, historically the slowest month for tourism of the year.
President of the South California Association of Timeshare Developers, Javier Olivares, attributes the increase in the popularity of Los Cabos to a number of factors. One such factor has to do with the handling of Covid-19 during the pandemic. Another factor that has played a role in the growing popularity of the region, he says, is the initiation of more tourism promotion for the area.
Last but not least, the absence of major crimes is also likely a contributing factor in why Los Cabos is a favorite Mexican vacation destination for international travelers. Olivares stated that “the factors that have to do are the measures implemented on the issue of Covid-19, but also the promotion of tourism and that Los Cabos is a place where high-impact accidents or crimes do not occur.” This comes at a time when there are warnings by the State Department for U.S. travelers visiting certain other cities in Mexico
To be sure, the area is not without crime, but very seldom are tourists faced with dangerous situations. Crime can happen in any major tourist destination, whether it be in Mexico, Canada, or the United States. But generally, if you follow common safety tips you can avoid becoming a victim of crime while on vacation, regardless of where you go.
Tourism officials feel that much of Mexico’s popularity is the result of the popularity of Los Cabos. By the end of the year the area is expected to see in upwards of 7 million visitors. This prediction comes after having a record-breaking first half of the year, with more than 3 million tourists visiting in just the first six months of 2022.
Already more than a million people have booked Cabo vacations for the upcoming winter, with 1.1 million flights from U.S. cities already reserved. This is a more than 40 percent increase compared to the same time in 2019, which consists of the last six months of the year. With numbers like that it seems like it won’t be long before Los Cabos is sitting in that number one spot.
