I’ve always been a sucker for a good beach day, but let’s be real, not all beaches are created equal.
Some look dreamy in photos but show up in real life with murky water, no restrooms, and nowhere to rent an umbrella unless you want to pay a small fortune. That’s why I’ve started checking one thing before I commit to a beach: Blue Flag certification.
If you haven’t heard of it, Blue Flag is kind of like the Michelin star of beaches. It means the beach passed some pretty strict tests for water quality, safety, accessibility, and sustainability. And right now, Los Cabos has 23 of them.

🌊 What’s a Blue Flag Beach and Why Should You Care?
Let’s cut through the complicated descriptions: a Blue Flag is basically the gold standard for beaches worldwide. It means that the beach has:
- Super clean water (like, scientifically tested clean)
- Top-tier safety services (including trained lifeguards)
- Eco-conscious infrastructure
- Educational programs that help protect the environment
In short, Blue Flag = beach you can trust.
So when you hit one of Los Cabos’ now 23 certified beaches, you’re not just getting a great tan. You’re getting a world-class, responsibly managed beach experience.

🏝️ The Newest Addition: A Mystery Worth Visiting
While local authorities have yet to officially reveal which beach has received the latest Blue Flag nod, Rafael Álvarez Munguía, Municipal Coordinator of Zofemat (Federal Maritime Land Zone) in Los Cabos, confirmed it. The announcement came with some exciting upgrades tied to the growing list of eco-certified beaches.
And based on where community-led programs are gaining traction, insiders believe it could be near La Playa in San José del Cabo. The official announcement is expected this June.
Wherever it is, it now joins a legendary lineup that already includes:
- Palmilla Beach – calm and swimmable
- Santa Maria Bay – secluded and scenic
- Chileno Beach – snorkel heaven 🐠

🚨 Safety First: New Lifeguards Coming June 1
Adding another Blue Flag beach isn’t just a flex; it comes with responsibility.
That’s why starting June 1, the municipality will add three new lifeguards across the certified beach areas. This brings the total up to 25 pros watching over swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers alike.
And with seven more beaches being prepped for Blue Flag status by 2026–2027, expect even more trained lifeguards joining the crew soon.
What’s more, these aren’t just lifeguards with floaties—they’re getting hands-on training from the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department, learning water rescue techniques and first aid that could truly save lives.

🏨 Hotels Join the Safety Squad Too
Los Cabos isn’t just relying on public services to keep tourists safe. Major hotels along El Médano Beach and the Tourist Corridor are also stepping up, sending their lifeguards to attend these high-level training sessions.
If you’re staying at a beach resort in Cabo, chances are the lifeguards on duty are some of the most prepared in the biz.
So you can sip your margarita with a little extra peace of mind.

🌱 From Local Kids to Coastal Champions
Over in the La Playa neighborhood, something really special is happening: a bunch of local kids and teens are getting involved in environmental education programs with one big goal, to help their home beach earn Blue Flag status too.
They’re learning about marine ecosystems, pollution prevention, and what it takes to protect the ocean for future generations. It’s community action at its finest, and it’s laying the foundation for even more clean, safe, and sustainable beaches in Baja Sur.

🧭 Want to Plan a Blue Flag Beach-Hopping Tour?
You totally should, and it’s easy. Start with these three tried-and-true certified gems:
- Palmilla Beach – Family-friendly and calm.
- Santa Maria Bay – A photographer’s dream.
- Chileno Beach – Great for snorkeling and marine spotting.

Thank you for subscribing I have one comment, Cabo is very nice place but the trash on each side of the road close from hacienda encantada hotel to city near Cabo Stone store is very dirty and trash everywhere, unacceptable for a so beautiful region.
