If you have traveled to Los Cabos anytime recently, you already know exactly what makes the region great. You know how incredible the views are, how good the hospitality is, and exactly where the most frustrating traffic bottlenecks are hidden. For years, one of the biggest headaches for arriving tourists was the brutal traffic jam at the Fonatur roundabout in San Jose del Cabo. Thankfully, that infrastructure mess is officially a thing of the past. The new highway underpass is now fully open, allowing cars to completely bypass the old traffic circle and keeping the main highway moving smoothly.

But the local government and private developers are not stopping at just fixing the roads. As we push through 2026, Los Cabos is actively executing a massive wave of fresh upgrades designed to eliminate the worst bottlenecks of your travel day and elevate the overall vacation experience. If you are planning a trip down to the Sea of Cortez later this year, your vacation is about to get significantly better. Here are the three massive projects currently in progress right now.
1. The Complete Overhaul Of Terminal Two At The Airport
The absolute worst part of any international vacation is the holding pen. For years, arriving at Los Cabos International Airport meant mentally preparing yourself to stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a crowded terminal before you could even think about grabbing a cold drink by the pool.

While the new biometric e-gates are already live and actively speeding up the immigration line to get you outside faster, the heavy physical construction phase of the airport’s expansion is happening right now. The airport operators are currently executing a staggering 370-million-dollar master development plan that is completely overhauling the layout. The international hub, Terminal Two, is actively expanding its physical footprint by nearly forty percent to add some highly needed breathing room for travelers.
The construction crews are currently building three brand-new boarding gates, installing nearly twenty new self-service check-in kiosks to cut down on those slow-moving lobby lines, and expanding the notoriously crowded baggage claim hall by a full thirty-three percent. They are also adding twelve additional immigration lanes. The entire goal of this massive cash injection is to get you off the tarmac, through customs, and into your waiting taxi faster than ever before.

2. A Massive Push For Downtown Walkability
While the big airport projects are making headlines, the upgrades happening right where you eat and shop are just as impactful for your daily itinerary. The downtown areas are getting a massive pedestrian upgrade.
Through a city-backed initiative known as the Camina Cabo project, officials are actively transforming the busy core of downtown Cabo San Lucas into highly walkable, pedestrian-first zones. The first phase of this 40-million-peso project focuses heavily on the high-traffic areas that visitors naturally gravitate toward, specifically along Lázaro Cárdenas, the area surrounding Plaza Amelia Wilkes, and the bustling Marina Boulevard.

The crews are physically widening the sidewalks to three meters, adding better street lighting, and creating safer, clearly marked crossings. They are also adding parklets to allow restaurants to extend their seating outdoors comfortably. The overall goal is to make wandering around downtown looking for a dinner spot or hitting the local bars feel incredibly easy and comfortable, rather than feeling like you are navigating an obstacle course of cars, tight corners, and narrow curbs. While you might see some temporary detours or narrowed sidewalks if you visit right now, the long-term result will make nights out in Cabo significantly smoother.
3. The Next Level Of Luxury Resorts And Golf Courses

Los Cabos is officially transitioning from an emerging travel market into the undisputed luxury capital of Latin America. Between now and the end of the year, the region is welcoming a wave of massive new luxury hospitality investments that are redefining the local standard.
The Pacific coast side of Cabo San Lucas is currently seeing a massive boom in high-end development. The highly anticipated St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira is actively preparing to open its doors, bringing over one hundred luxury rooms and exclusive branded residences overlooking the ocean. Later in the year, the expansive Grand Hyatt Los Cabos at Oleada will also open its doors as part of a massive new mixed-use community.
Destination Upgrades
Beyond the resorts themselves, the region is also adding some serious upgrades for golf fans. There are three major golf courses currently under construction, including an Ernie Els designed course at Oleada and the highly anticipated Tiger Woods Legacy Club over at Diamante. These new properties and courses are pushing the boundaries of high-end travel. They are moving completely away from the standard hotel model and focusing heavily on massive wellness facilities, incredible dining options, and world-class recreation. This massive wave of development means you are going to have access to some of the absolute best, most exclusive hospitality experiences anywhere in the world on your next trip down.
