Los Cabos In August? Here’s Why It’s A Fantastic Plan

Share The Article

If you’re second-guessing your decision to book a Los Cabos getaway in late August, take a deep breath and relax.

You might just be headed for one of the most underrated (and rewarding) vacation windows of the year.

Despite some internet hand-wringing about heat and hurricanes, locals and repeat visitors over on Reddit are setting the record straight: August is a hot, wild, and wonderful time to experience Baja magic.

Of course all of us at The Cabo Sun think every month is a great month to be in Cabo, but here are a few reasons August is a great idea!

🌊 Warm Water, Cool Adventures

Let’s start with the water. August is peak season for enjoying the Sea of Cortez in all its sun-warmed glory. With average temps around 84°F (29°C), you can float, swim, snorkel, and dive for hours without catching a chill.

Snorkelers and divers rave about the visibility this time of year—revealing technicolor fish and the occasional sea lion. Though it can change day to day from storms so be sure to check the weather!

August is also prime time for deep-sea fishing.

If you’re dreaming of reeling in marlin or mahi-mahi, this is your month.

Surfers, too, have reason to rejoice. Southern Hemisphere swells make for steady sets on Cabo’s beaches from June through August.

🏋️ Beat the Crowds, Snag the Deals

August falls firmly in Los Cabos’ off-peak season, which means you’ll dodge the winter holiday crush and spring break mayhem.

Redditors like @Unusual_Bookkeeper30 say it best: fewer crowds = better everything. More room on the beach. Quieter dinners. Easier poolside lounging. Not to mention, accommodations and activities can run 20–30% cheaper than in high season. Budget travelers, rejoice.

🦕 Nature at Its Most Magical

August kicks off sea turtle nesting season. With a little luck, you could witness mamas laying eggs under the moonlight—or even help release baby hatchlings into the surf. It’s one of those only-in-Cabo moments that sticks with you forever.

Bonus: longer daylight hours mean more time to explore the marina, sip mezcal with a view, or take that sunset cruise.

☀️ But Let’s Talk Heat…

There’s no sugarcoating it: August is hot. Expect daily highs in the low 90s F (around 33°C) with serious humidity. Reddit user @Rare-Scientist-8746 recommends sticking to well-rated resorts with strong A/C: “Don’t go cheap. Even dinner can be miserable without it.”

Luckily, most resorts are built for the heat. Many travelers shared their routine: early pool time, long lunch naps in air-conditioned bliss, and evenings out when the sun cools.

Other insider tips include:

  • Pack light, breathable clothing.
  • Bring zinc-based or waterproof sunscreen (and reapply often).
  • Stock up on electrolyte packs like Liquid I.V.
  • Skip the blowout: humidity + makeup = instant regret.

⛈️ Rain & Storms: What Are the Odds?

August sits on the front edge of Cabo’s hurricane season.

While the risk is lower than in September, storms do occasionally roll through. Some visitors reported getting caught in level-2 hurricanes—but with resort staff handling things smoothly.

Others experienced just a few showers, often at night. Think of it as dramatic ambiance rather than vacation-ruining weather.

Just in case, grab travel insurance that covers weather-related cancellations. And maybe pack a board game or two. (As one Redditor joked: “Bring Parcheesi just in case you’re locked in the resort.”)
