Tourists to Los Cabos this peak fall and winter holiday season may get the feeling that it just seems a little more busy than last year. Well, the perception will be reality.
The beach resort destination hotspot is currently projected to end the year with more than four million visitors, a full half a million more visitors than last year.
Los Cabos is Hot
Los Cabos is definitely hot this year and this has nothing to do with the tropical weather. The popular Mexican vacation getaway is expected to have an increase of more than 13 percent compared with last year.
Total visitors year-to-date through October is 3.2 million, an 11.5 percent increase from the same time period last year.
Rodrigo Esponda, the director of FITURCA of Los Cabos, reported recently that Los Cabos had an impressive 3.4 million passengers arriving by air all of last year. This was mainly due to the impact of revenue travel after the impact of worldwide COVID-19 pandemic dropped traveler numbers for three years.
The organization stepped up its marketing promotion of the beach resort destination and worked closely with resorts and hotels to improve customer service and deliver a more luxury experience to travelers.
They also partnered closely with the Los Cabos International Airport to attract more airlines and flights to consider Los Cabos for their resort destination routing.
The promotional activity did a great job attracting visitors to the sunny resort location in Baja California Sur. Now the number of travelers is hitting new levels just as the peak fall and winter holiday travel season kicks into gear.
US Travelers Driving Demand
It is a fact that international travel beyond the United States has made an important contribution to the impressive visitor counts seen in Los Cabos this year. Esponda cited tourist increases of 38.9 percent in the Colombian market, 511 percent in the Japanese market and 33.8 percent in the German market.
While impressive increases from a percentage perspective, the actual numbers of travelers are still relatively small when compared with tourists from the United States, and especially California.
A significant increase in routes to Los Cabos from West Coast markets in the United States, especially California, has contributed significantly to the amazing growth of Los Cabos as a premier beach resort destination in Mexico this year.
The United States truly is one of the three main drivers of tourist visits to Los Cabos, the others being Canada and of course, the domestic market of Mexico.
What Does It Mean for Travelers?
It is truly to see the Los Cabos market grow and become more popular with travelers seeking a great vacation getaway at a beach resort destination. With the addition of more amenities for luxury travelers, it truly has an adventure for everyone.
However, travelers that are used to the small and sleepy beach town of Los Cabos will have to adjust to more crowds and more people. Along with more conveniences, they will also have to accept the tradeoffs of more expensive accommodations and flights to get to their desired vacation getaway.
With every good thing, there are some drawbacks. Los Cabos is no exception. Travelers will also have to adjust to a town that is outstripping much of the infrastructure to keep up with the demand of being a premier beach resort destination.
That means more traffic on the roads and much-needed infrastructure repairs and replacement activity that will test the patience of the locals, as well as travelers.
Despite all of this, Los Cabos will continue to evolve and provide even better experiences for its international guests that it welcomes with open arms.
Reaching the four million visitor milestone will ultimately be positive for these travelers as Los Cabos starts getting some additional amenities by welcoming this new milestone number of visitors.
