Just like in every other country, some areas of Mexico are safer than others, and Los Cabos is considered one of the safest vacation destinations in the country.
A new report shows that it’s even safer now than ever because crime is down, and tourism is booming.
Take a look at how Los Cabos is keeping tourists safe and some other reasons why it’s considered one of the safest vacation destinations in Mexico.
Video Surveillance Helps Keep Crime Down
One of the ways Los Cabos provides security in the destination is by using video surveillance to monitor busy tourist areas.
Cameras help in two ways.
First, they help deter criminals from committing crimes where video surveillance is used.
Second, they also help to identify individuals who commit crimes, making it easier to locate them and hold them responsible.
Security Operations To Protect Tourists
Los Cabos also has no problem utilizing security elements from both the police and military forces to help keep tourists safe.
It’s not uncommon to see them walking up and down the beaches and in other highly populated tourist areas.
This is especially the case during the busy seasons, particularly the winter and spring months.
Perceptions Of Security In Los Cabos
One reason Los Cabos is considered one of the safest vacation destinations in Mexico is others’ perceptions of security.
A recent report, based on a two-month period, shows that an astonishing 87 percent of tourists who visited during that time felt safe in Los Cabos.
The group surveyed was made up of both domestic and international tourists.
The U.S. State Department’s Advisory
Even the U.S. State Department considers Los Cabos a safe enough vacation destination for Americans to visit.
While there is a warning to exercise increased caution when visiting, there are no restrictions on travel to Los Cabos.
The advisory to exercise increased caution is an advisory that applies to the state of Baja California Sur in general, and is due to the possibility of criminal activity taking place while visiting.
Los Cabos’s Location – One Of Beauty And Security
The location of Los Cabos is also a factor in its being safer than many other Mexican vacation destinations.
It sits at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, far away from the mainland, where crime is more prevalent.
This helps protect the destination from being plagued with many of the problems you see in other places in Mexico.
American Tourists In Los Cabos
One of the strong indicators that Los Cabos is a safe place to travel is the tourism numbers.
Millions of travelers, the majority of whom hail from the United States, visit Los Cabos every year.
Nearly 2 million international tourists have already visited the destination this year, and the high season is just around the corner, so that number will jump considerably by the end of 2024.
Safety Tips For Visiting Los Cabos
Whether Los Cabos is a safer vacation destination than many other Mexican vacation destinations or not, which it is, there are still some general safety tips that everyone should follow while visiting.
They’re the same safety tips you should follow when visiting any vacation destination, especially if it’s your first time visiting and you don’t know the area.
The following safety tips are just precautions to protect yourself from criminals who want to take advantage of tourists.
Those safety tips are:
- Travel in pairs or groups when you can, especially at night.
- Don’t accept drinks from strangers.
- Stay in tourist areas and avoid going into areas you don’t know.
- Be careful of how much alcohol you consume when you’re out and about.
- Keep family and friends informed of your plans throughout your vacation.
And remember, you can still have fun; just do it safely!
