As a destination world-famous for picture-perfect landscapes, luxurious resorts, and stunning beaches, one of the last things travelers consider when choosing to vacation here is whether the local health services are up to scratch.

Thankfully for travelers, Los Cabos has a modern and reliable healthcare system, ready to take good care of them in the unfortunate event that their services are required.

But with the destination building more and more resorts each year, the visitor numbers are only rising. On top of this, many Americans are starting to make Los Cabos home rather than a yearly vacation experience.

This, and the growing local population, is beginning to add strain to the Los Cabos health system. While it’s not yet time to panic about medical services, the destination is just a few years away from serious problems.

This is why the recent news that Los Cabos is getting a brand-new hospital has been so well received.

Securing Future Travelers’ Health

As mentioned, with the destination growing at an astonishing rate, healthcare issues are expected in the near future. That concern is put to be now thanks to this announcement and cements the destination’s reputation for putting the health and safety of both locals and travelers as a high priority.

The state-of-the-art facility being built will have 260 beds and will utilize the latest high-tech medical equipment available to serve travelers across multiple specialties.

The total cost for this new hospital is expected to land around $ 170 million USD. This shows without question the state of Baja California Sur’s commitment to Los Cabos’ future and the well-being of each and every traveler.

Current Facilities

Los Cabos is far from being light on healthcare services, the destination has consistently strived to provide great care and ample facilities throughout its history as a vacation powerhouse.

Currently, the main hospital facilities available are:

  • St. Luke’s Hospital
  • Hospital Reforma
  • AMC
  • General Hospital Cabo San Lucas
  • Hospiten Cabo San Lucas

These hospitals all boast 24/7 emergency rooms, ICU facilities, modern medical equipment, and a safe, hygienic hospital environment.

Superb Care Standards

The standard of care that travelers can expect in Los Cabos is very high, and many of the facilities here stand toe to toe with the fantastic healthcare facilities in the United States.

Everything from minor injuries from a day at the beach or a fall after too many Mojitos, right through to life-saving surgeries are treated in highly professional and well-trained environments.

Los Cabos has a healthy amount of medical tourism also, for everything from minor cosmetic surgeries right up to experimental treatments not available in the United States.

All of this together means that Los Cabos has one of the most comprehensive medical systems in the whole of North America.

Don’t Get Caught Out

It’s good to know that in the worst-case scenario, travelers will be well taken care of by the local health system. Something never in doubt either in Mexico, where no one is allowed to be denied emergency care.

But when the dust settles after an unforeseen treatment, it’s not a happy end to a vacation to be left with a sizeable medical bill.

While healthcare is much more affordable in Mexico than in the United States, costs can still mount up.

For this reason, travelers should always ensure they have a comprehensive and reliable travel insurance plan purchased.

This not only protects travelers from the unwelcome burden of medical bills but can also help travelers get into the very best facilities in Los Cabos.

Policing and infrastructure initiatives aimed at raising the destination even higher have been announced at an astonishingly regular rate. And as 2023 comes close to an end, the confirmation of this high-tech new hospital is the cherry on top of the cake.

Give it a rest, St Lukes (and some others) have so many complaints against them for unfair and deceptive business practices, the US State department sent out a warning about going there for treatment. It hasn't changed.

I notice for Americans the list of consulate recommended hospitals did not list H+ Hospital in San Jose Del Cabo. Also St Luke's in Cabo is on the US Consulate list of being a preditory hospital although their patient treatment at bedside are good, the billing in the past has been inflated.

Has this changed?
