Los Cabos is continuing to grow in popularity with travelers looking for a resort-style beach destination close to home. That’s being reflected in the constant stream of visitor traffic growth at the Los Cabos International Airport.
Increasing Airport Travelers
In the month of February, which is right before the start of the peak of the spring travel season, the Los Cabos airport recorded a more than 24 percent year-over-year increase in travelers. This number not only includes domestic tourism but also visitors from international markets.
According to Airport Manager Francisco Villaseñor, the total actually reflected a larger increase in domestic traffic than usual. However, he definitely expected this one-month anomaly to change as Los Cabos hits its peak spring travel season this month.
He did add that international traffic did increase as well during the month of February, and the numbers were already starting to turn over at the end of the month.
For example, on February 23 and 24, the international tourist count had a 30 percent increase this year compared with a 22 percent increase during the same two days last year.
The traffic in Los Cabos is growing due to the expanding popularity of Los Cabos and the dedication of local government officials to upgrade the experience. This is also coinciding with the expansion of “revenge travel” trends as travelers want to experience a vacation after the long COVID lockdowns.
Attracting High-End Visitors
The resorts in Los Cabos have been working to find new ways to attract different guests to the area. Part of their efforts have been a focus on upscaling the image of the area as more of a resort destination.
More high-end resorts are in the plans for Los Cabos, along with championship-level golf courses. These higher-end amenities are attracting visitors now and will continue to attract more affluent customers for many years to come.

Upgrading the Infrastructure
Los Cabos government officials have also been working hard to make Los Cabos a fun and safe place to visit.
Not only have they been working hard to improve the speed of entry at the airport with state-of-the-art entry gates, but they have been working to improve the highway access to town as well.
This goes along with the upgrading of safety lighting in major plazas and installing cameras to keep the beaches clean and safe for beachgoers during the important spring season.
Revenge Travel Impact
Another reason why Los Cabos is becoming such a preferred destination for visitors is it is the ultimate revenge travel destination.
Los Cabos is simply a great place for everything visitors love, such as water sports, nightlife, off-roading, sportfishing, eco-adventures, and even poolside lounging with a cold drink. Los Cabos is easily considered the revenge escape from everyday life.
The area is also a perfect destination because most people are already familiar with Mexican culture and love the food. It is also a little more lenient in Los Cabos, which means you can let your hair down a bit more and relax.
Best of all, it is close to home, which means it is a fast and quick getaway for as little as a weekend. It is also amazingly cheap to fly to Los Cabos with major low-cost airlines such as the three S’s – Spirit, Southwest, and Swoop. That explains the sharp increase in passenger traffic at the Los Cabos International Airport.
With all the great benefits of spending a resort-style vacation in Los Cabos, it would not be surprising to see the visitor numbers at the airport continue to increase for many years to come.
