It doesn’t matter where you travel; your airport experience plays a big role in whether or not your vacation starts off on the right foot.
Some airports are better than others, and according to travelers, Los Cabos Airport is one of the best in the world.
Let’s take a look at how it ranked and some tips for a smooth travel experience.
The AirHelp Airport Rankings
Each year a company called AirHelp ranks airports throughout the world.
The company specializes in getting compensation for passengers who have issues with their flights.
More than 17,000 airports across more than 60 countries were rated this year.
How Los Cabos Airport Measured Up
Out of all of the airports that were rated, Los Cabos made it not only to the top 100 but almost even to the top 20.
Los Cabos International Airport was ranked number 22 on the list.
Its average satisfaction rating came out to be 8.10.
What The Rankings Are Based On
Rankings are based on information received from each commercial international airport on the list.
The information is based on satisfaction surveys that are provided for passengers to fill out.
In this case, the results are based on surveys filled out between May 2023 and May 2024.
Los Cabos Airport Compared To Other Mexican Airports That Made The List
Two other Mexican airports made it to the AirHelp rankings list, AICM (Mexico City International Airport), and Cancun International Airport.
Mexico City’s airport, with an average satisfaction rating of 7.93, landed in 45th place.
Cancun’s airport, which serves more foreign travelers than any other airport in Mexico and had an average satisfaction rating of 7.8, ranked 70th among all of the airports analyzed.
Los Cabos ranked the highest out of all three airports that made the list.
How Busy Is Los Cabos Airport?
Los Cabos International Airport, located in the city of San Jose del Cabo, is the third busiest airport in Mexico for international passengers, following Mexico City in second place, and Cancun in first place.
Last year Los Cabos served more than 4 million passengers and is on track to do the same this year.
It’s connected to 49 airports around the world that offer nonstop flights to the destination, and nearly 2,000 flights arrive in Los Cabos every month.
American travelers can fly direct to Los Cabos from a total of 28 U.S. airports, with one of 8 different airlines that serve the destination.
Tips For Arriving At Los Cabos Airport
Arriving at a busy foreign airport for the first time can be both exhilarating and intimidating at the same time, but arriving in Los Cabos is not that much different than traveling to a domestic airport in your own country.
To make your arrival go smoothly just be sure you’re not traveling with forbidden items, have your identification and any paperwork readily available, and be sure to pack your patience and you’ll be fine.
It’s also a good idea to book transportation in advance so that your driver will be waiting for you when you arrive.
Tips For Departing From Los Cabos Airport
It’s suggested that international travelers should arrive at Los Cabos Airport three hours before departure.
To make the wait more bearable, you can purchase access to an airport lounge, where drinks, snacks, and other perks are provided for less than $50.
You may want to book your transportation to the airport in advance as well, just to ensure that you won’t have to wait when you’re ready to depart from Los Cabos.

Whoever wrote this article has not travelled much at all. The San Jose del Cabo Airport is in dire need of an upgrade, which is now being undertaken but what they are doing is insufficient. The volume of visitors it now receives need a better experience when arriving. The line ups are crazy, especially in the Customs area. Why on earth you have to have your luggage rescanned is crazy
