However, the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center bring fantastic news for tourists heading to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The storm has significantly lost its strength and shifted its path, meaning the major resort areas are officially out of danger. Here is everything you need to know about the current weather situation, the new tropical disturbance down south, and what to expect on the ground this week.

Trudy Drops To Tropical Storm Status

Just a few days ago, Hurricane Trudy was churning in the Pacific as a powerful storm, bringing heavy rain and destructive waves to the southwestern coast of Mexico. Forecast models initially showed a highly unpredictable path, making tourists in Los Cabos incredibly nervous about a potential direct hit or massive secondary impacts.

Fortunately, the atmosphere had a much better plan for travelers. The storm encountered strong wind shear and dry air, which completely dismantled its core. As a result, Trudy has rapidly weakened and officially been downgraded to a tropical storm.

Even better, the updated forecast track shows the system staying far away from the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. The National Hurricane Center confirms that the storm will continue to safely pass by without making any direct landfall in Cabo San Lucas.

A Wild Season For Los Cabos

The fact that Los Cabos dodged another major storm is the running theme of the 2026 Pacific hurricane season. It feels like local authorities and travelers have been watching the weather nonstop for the last few months. This year alone, five different hurricanes have spun up in the Pacific and gotten uncomfortably close to the Baja California peninsula.

large Waves Los Cabos

Despite the constant parade of storms and scary news headlines, Los Cabos has been incredibly lucky. Not a single one of those five hurricanes managed to make a direct landfall on the resort towns. The unique geographic position of the peninsula and favorable high pressure systems have consistently steered the worst weather away at the very last minute. While the region has certainly seen its fair share of large ocean swells, canceled boat tours, and scattered rain showers, the luxury resorts and local infrastructure have remained completely unharmed.

One More Disturbance To Watch

While travelers can breathe a huge sigh of relief regarding Tropical Storm Trudy, the Pacific hurricane season is not officially over just yet. Meteorologists are currently monitoring one more significant area of disturbed weather located way down south, several hundred miles off the coast of Guatemala.

According to the latest tropical weather outlook, the environmental conditions in that area remain very conducive for development. Forecasters currently give this system a 90 percent chance of forming into a new tropical depression or named storm over the next seven days.

New Disturbance

Before you panic and cancel your November travel plans, context is incredibly important. This new disturbance is currently sitting hundreds of miles away from Los Cabos, and track models are not showing an immediate threat to the Baja peninsula.

The End Of Hurricane Season

The best news for winter travelers is that the calendar is finally on your side. As we push later into October, the ocean waters begin to cool down and atmospheric conditions become much less favorable for major storm development. The official end of the Pacific hurricane season is rapidly approaching, which means the chances of a new hurricane forming and striking Los Cabos will begin to dwindle to almost zero.
