Vacations and quick getaways can be great but can quickly turn into chaos if time isn’t taken to plan and prepare right.  Not having the right wardrobe, waiting too late to book activities, not knowing what to expect at the chosen destination, not keeping up on events and limited-time activities, and not researching accommodations can really put a damper on any vacation.  To help you avoid this when visiting Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo this winter, we’ll share some tips on how to prepare for your winter getaway in Los Cabos.

How to Pack

It may seem like a simple thing to pack for a warm winter vacation destination but there are some items in addition to the swimsuit and shorts that you’ll want to have when visiting Los Cabos in the winter.  To be sure, you definitely want these items because the days will still be warm enough to enjoy the beaches and sunshine, but the mornings and evenings can be a little chilly.  You’ll definitely want to bring a sweater or light jacket but it’s a good idea to pack some long pants for those cool nights as well.

Activities to Book

There are a lot of activities to enjoy in Los Cabos but some can only be enjoyed in the winter so you’ll want to include those while you can.  One such activity is whale watching and December and January are the best time to do this, as humpback and gray whales spend the winter in Cabo.  Winter is also the best time to enjoy certain outdoor activities like hiking, horseback and camel riding on the beach, and taking a walking tour through the Old Town in San Jose del Cabo because temperatures are much milder.

What to Expect

In the winter months, the weather is beautiful during the daytime, with temperatures typically in the 70s and even getting up to 80 at times.  Water temperatures are still warm enough for swimming as well, hovering around 72 degrees.  As far as crowds go, you can expect it to be pretty busy in Los Cabos during the winter, as people from all over the world look for somewhere to go to escape the cold winters and Cabo is a popular choice.

Holiday Festivities

If you’ll be visiting Los Cabos during the holidays you won’t have any problem finding a way to celebrate, as both Christmas and New Year’s are celebrated.  For Christmas, celebrations start at the beginning of December and last through the holiday, with a big feast on Christmas that you’ll be able to enjoy at any one of a number of restaurants or resorts.  For New Year’s the celebrations are much like they are everywhere else but with the added benefit of the warm weather, that’s perfect for watching fireworks on the beach.

Where to Stay

Both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo have plenty to offer in activities, restaurants, and great all-inclusive resorts to stay at, so it really comes down to the experience you’re looking for.  If you’re looking for excitement and don’t mind the crowds then Cabo San Lucas is where you want to be.  If a more peaceful vacation is what you’re looking for, though, then San José del Cabo might be a better choice.

Los Cabos is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year but wintertime offers mild weather and the perfect opportunity to escape the cold.  You can spend your days at an all-inclusive resort sipping tropical drinks poolside without a care in the world.  And that is exactly what a vacation is supposed to be.
