First Extreme Heatwave of the Season Hits Los Cabos

We at The Cabo Sun know you packed your bags, dreaming of gentle sea breezes and sunset cocktails—but Cabo just dialed its thermostat all the way up.

Until the 18th of June, Los Cabos is sizzling under its first truly extreme heatwave of the summer, with daytime highs cresting 104–113 °F under clear, relentless skies.

Local health and Civil Protection authorities warn that heat stroke and dehydration can set in shockingly fast—treat this seriously if you don’t want your vacation to turn into an ER visit.

**Update 6-18-25: Mexico’s National Water Commission (CONAGUA) reported temps ranging from 40°C to 45°C (104°F–113°F) could be expected until the 18th in southern BCS. True temps currently show temperatures in the mid-70s (°F). Travelers are still advised to take precautions for heat, but severity of the heatwave is less than expected in the Los Cabos area**

☀️ What to Expect

Even a quick stroll around town or a lazy beach day can feel like you’re in a blast furnace.

Smooth pavement radiates heat, and without a cloud in sight, there’s nowhere to hide once that sun climbs high. Here’s what the next few days look like:

  • Scorching Highs: Daytime temperatures between 104 °F–113 °F, with very little overnight cooldown.
  • Peak Sun Hours: Local authorities urge you to avoid being outdoors from 11 AM–4 PM, when UV radiation and ambient heat are at their absolute worst.
  • Dry, Still Air: Light winds mean heat will hang heavy—shade is gold, and breezes are rare.

💦 Cabo Sun’s Top Heat-Safety Tips

Feeling the heat? Don’t sweat it!

Follow these essential tips to stay cool, safe, and ready for fun under the blazing Cabo sun:

  1. Dress for Success
    • Opt for light colors (whites, pastels) and loose-fitting garments.
    • Choose breathable fabrics like cotton or linen so sweat can evaporate and cool you down.
  2. Hydration Is Everything
    • Sip water constantly, aiming for 2–3 liters daily—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
    • Pro tip: Carry a refillable bottle—many hotels and beach clubs along Médano Beach will gladly top you up.
  3. Layer on Sun Protection
    • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen every two hours.
    • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses.
    • Seek shade whenever possible, even for a quick break.

  1. Time Your Adventures
    • Book snorkeling, hiking, or city strolls for before 11 AM or after 4 PM.
    • Embrace the siesta—retreat to your casita or a cool café in the Art District during peak heat.
  2. Eat Light & Smart
    • Favor fresh fruits (watermelon, mango, papaya) and crisp salads to replenish electrolytes.
    • Skip heavy meals and avoid booze between 11 AM and 4 PM—it only speeds up dehydration.
  3. Watch for Heat-Stress Signals
    • Dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headache, or nausea can all be red flags.
    • If you feel off, move to air-conditioning or shade immediately and hydrate.
  4. Never Leave Anyone in Parked Cars
    • Temperatures inside a closed vehicle can soar in minutes—never risk it.
  5. Know Your Emergency Contacts
    • Dial 911 (or local emergency numbers) at the first sign of severe heat-related illness.
    • Your hotel concierge can point you to the nearest Red Cross station or clinic.
