About The Celebration

La Paz es Diversa AC Co-Director Fabri Arraut is excited to invite everyone to enjoy the Pride Month celebration in La Paz.

The most anticipated event of the celebration, the annual Pride march, will take place in La Paz on June 24 at 5:00 pm. Last year, hundreds of La Paz community members were joined by a number of visitors to the community in the march.

However, the greatest need of the organization right now is for volunteers to help with the entire celebration in La Paz.

Celebrating Progress in La Paz

For the LGBTQ+ community in La Paz, there is much to celebrate this year as important progress is being made in the community to raise the visibility of the community and celebrate its culture.

Arraut cited that the community now has more places to openly perform drag in the area and the fact that local officials are helping to open doors to lead the community to acceptance.

The partnership that La Paz es Diversa AC has created with the community is finally paying dividends and making it easier for people to identify with the LGBTQ+ audience and recognize its diversity and acceptance.

However, La Paz es Diversa admits that there is still much more progress to be made for members of the LGBTQ+ community in La Paz. Especially among the transexual members of the community.

Discrimination is still an issue among this group in La Paz, and La Paz es Diversa is dedicated to continuing to open doors for this group toward acceptance and the end of discrimination.

The LGBTQ+ Population in La Paz

According to the Gay Mexico Map website, the LGBTQ+ population in La Paz is actually small relative to Los Cabos. This is not surprising as the total population of the town is about 250,000.

However, there are a number of businesses listed on the website as being “gay friendly,” including Black La Paz, Casa Cultural El Huevo, and the Hotel Allende.

It also mentioned that, unfortunately, many of the gay-focused bars in the area have closed.

The Popularity of La Paz With LGBTQ+ Travelers

According to a leading travel organization, despite Mexico being a relatively conservative Catholic country, La Paz and Los Cabos are very gay-friendly and have restaurants, nightclubs, activities, and amenities available for LGBTQ+ tourists.

In fact, Los Cabos was recognized last year by being accredited as a top queer-friendly destination by the LGBT+ Travel Association. The honor was because the area was viewed as being welcoming to all members of the LGBT+ community and having a variety of options available for tourists.

This is despite the fact that both La Paz and Los Cabos only have a few gay bars each, and most of the LGBTQ+ lifestyle action in Mexico is centered up north around Tijuana instead.

Several of the Los Cabos resorts have shifted some of their marketing outreach focus to proactively attracting this key traveling audience.

That’s because the typical international traveler profile for the LGBTQ+ community is a more mid-range professional worker with above-average income and a lot of discretionary spending.

In other words, the members of this traveling audience have more income and are more willing to spend it for an upscale vacation. This fits exactly with the more affluent visitor profile, which is currently the target of tourism development and focuses on wellness vacations in the Los Cabos area.

Tourists are welcome to participate in the La Paz Pride Month celebration and march on June 24. Arraut is encouraging those interested in attending to follow the La Paz es Diversa AC social media account.
