Anybody can take one look at a picture of the dramatic coastlines of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and easily see why anyone would want to vacation there.  But, according to recent data from the Los Cabos Tourism Board, three out of five Los Cabos travelers say that one thing specifically is their main reason for visiting.  That reason is having the opportunity to explore the region’s natural surroundings, and there are endless ways to explore nature in Los Cabos.

Small Los Cabos Nature

To be sure, the beaches are the most loved natural attraction in Los Cabos, despite the fact that most of the beaches are not ideal for swimming. Still, the heart-stopping scenery and the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of water activities draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to Los Cabos beaches every year.  But many of those visitors seek adventure beyond the beach and enjoy one or more of the following outdoor nature activities during their visits too.

Camping and Glamping

With all of the all-inclusive resorts in the area, you may not have thought about camping when visiting Los Cabos, but many people do.  To really get in touch with nature, you’ll have to go about 100 miles from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz, where you can find beach camping, as well as forest camping in the Sierra de la Laguna preserve.  For a shorter trip with a more luxurious camping experience, you can travel about an hour from Cabo to Todos Santos to try glamping as well.

Hiking and Biking in Los Cabos

The smooth sandy beaches and the hilly backdrop and desert terrain make the Los Cabos area ideal for hiking and biking.  No matter what your skill level, you can find a spot that will give you the chance to see more of the natural side of Baja California Sur.  Places like Estero San Jose del Cabo, Rancho Cacachilas, Punta Lobos, and el Cerro del Vigia at Land’s End in Cabo San Lucas all offer different perspectives of the area that can be explored on foot or by bike.

ATV and Off-road Adventuring in Los Cabos

What better place to go ATVing than the desert, especially one with ocean views and hilly terrain?  Numerous tour companies offer dune buggies and four-wheelers to explore the desert and surrounding hillsides and even the more secluded beaches as well.  Not only will these activities give you an adventure of a lifetime, but they’ll allow you to see a side of the Los Cabos area that not everyone gets to see.

Ziplining and Bungee Jumping

While bungee jumping may not be for everyone, for those that enjoy that type of adventure, Wild Canyon Adventures provides the perfect opportunity.  Here you can combine views of the rocky canyons from a glass bottom gondola with the adventure of plunging 300 feet into the canyon on a bungee.  At the same park, you can zipline through the canyons as well while taking in views of the surrounding landscape and the ocean.

Horseback and Camel Riding

Horseback and camel riding are great ways to explore the beach and the desert, allowing you to go along taking in the views casually.  These unique methods of seeing everything will give you the opportunity to learn from a guide along the way and possibly even see wildlife on your journey.  Some tours even include stops for culinary or tequila-tasting experiences during the trip, enhancing the overall cultural experience in general.
