Los Cabos has had a successful start to high season, closing October with 70% hotel occupancy, almost 10 percentage points above rates recorded in 2019.
The information was revealed by the Los Cabos Hotel Association, which said that as of today (31st October), the average hotel occupancy for the month was 70%. However, some weekends saw higher numbers.
Weekends are often taken advantage of for holidays by visitors who fly for three- or four-day weekends to the region, and this pushed the occupancy on some dates to around 72%. This was also heightened by a number of sporting events that attracted tourists to the area.
These events include the popular sports fishing tournaments, which contribute more than $50 million to the economy of Los Cabos via spending on rental boats and equipment.
These statistics mean the high season in Los Cabos, which has already begun and will run until at least April, is potentially record-breaking, with extremely high tourist numbers not just seen in the hotel industry but in all tourism sectors.
These numbers were not entirely unexpected, as previously, during September, a month normally known for being the height of low season due to hurricanes, hotels saw 52% occupancy, which is very unusual for Los Cabos, however, it was very encouraging entering into October.

High visitor numbers have been particularly noticed across the area’s transport systems, as tourists almost exclusively need ways to get around when staying in the area, so rental cars, airport pickups, and taxi services have also seen a huge surge in demand, as tourists ask to get ferried to shops and restaurants.
Despite Los Cabos already having had a record-breaking year in terms of visitor numbers, this is only set to increase throughout the high season. American tourists, in particular, are the main client base for Los Cabos tourism, and the region’s International Airport has already reported increased arrivals from the US.
Coming up in November, Los Cabos will host its eponymous Film Festival. It has been announced that Brendan Fraser’s film ‘The Whale’ will be the headline at the festival, which will also be attended by a variety of celebrities.
Following this, December is expected to welcome over one million American tourists, as well as international arrivals who have booked winter holidays in Los Cabos. The period from December to April is particularly popular as it is whale-watching season, and boat tours in Los Cabos are likely to see overwhelming demand for wildlife tours.
Los Cabos is popular with tourists for almost every reason possible. The region is expanding into every area and industry, including focusing on becoming a luxury tourist destination – cemented by the opening of new high-end luxury resorts and restaurants in the area.
In terms of luxury destinations, this label has only been confirmed by the increasing numbers of celebrity visitors choosing to vacation in the area, in fact, it was voted one of the top ten places celebrities have chosen for their vacations this year.
It has also been a getaway favorite with celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Justin Bieber, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Britney Spears. These celebs and more visit the region often either for relaxation or to host celebrations and weddings, and some even own property in Los Cabos.
On top of this, Los Cabos has also been voted as having the cleanest beaches in Mexico, being one of the safest places to go on vacation, and is the most popular spot in Latin America for wellness vacations.
All of these factors are contributing to record-breaking visitor numbers, both via air and by sea, with cruise ship numbers impacting the Los Cabos economy almost as much as flight passengers, with hundreds of thousands of cruise visitors set to arrive before the end of December.
