Los Cabos Launches Operation To Make Illegal Beach Vendors Easier To Identify

Travelers seem to have a love/hate relationship with beach vendors; some love them, and others don’t.   

Regardless of how you feel about them, they’re a constant presence in many Mexican beach vacation destinations, including Los Cabos.   

Illegal vendors who shouldn’t be operating in the destination are also an issue, but Los Cabos is now launching an operation to make illegal beach vendors easier to identify.   

What Are Beach Vendors? 

Beach vendors are very similar to street vendors, but they operate on the beach.   

Many offer the same types of things for sale.   

Food, beverages, souvenirs, and beach necessities are the most common items sold by both beach and street vendors. 

Identification For Beach Vendors To Carry 

The purpose of this new operation launched in Los Cabos is to provide beach vendors with identification that proves that they are legal vendors.   

This also helps tourists to determine which vendors are legal and registered to operate as well, and it makes buying from vendors safer.   

At the launch of the operation, beach vendors were given licenses to operate, which they pay around $50 a year for.   

Why This Is Important To Tourists 

Not all unlicensed beach vendors are bad, some are just trying to make a living, but some are using the cover to offer other things.   

It isn’t unheard of for beach vendors to offer tourists illicit substances.   

Those individuals could be dangerous.  With this new system, it’ll be easier to avoid them and opt for a real vendor.  

Number Of Beach Vendors In Los Cabos 

You’ll have no trouble finding beach vendors in Los Cabos because there are hundreds of them, and they’re on most beaches in the destination.   

While it’s unclear as to how many beach vendors in Los Cabos were already licensed, almost 700 received licenses with the launch of the operation.   

Los Cabos has around 25 beaches where these vendors are spread out.   

Items Typically Bought From Beach Vendors  

As mentioned above, beach vendors offer a variety of items for sale.   

To be more specific, food items that may be offered by beach vendors include things like tacos, elote, quesadillas, and more.   

Some of the souvenir items you might find are jewelry, hats, sarongs, bandanas, blankets, and handicrafts.   

You may even see beach vendors offering massages on the beach for a pretty affordable price, too.   

Other Places To Find Vendors In Los Cabos 

The beaches are not the only place to find vendors offering low prices on food and souvenirs.   

On many streets in the destination, you’ll find street vendors, either in small storefronts, booths, or with carts.   

You can also visit various markets in Los Cabos that have vendors offering the same types of items.   

One of those is Marina Mercado, which is set up like an indoor flea market.   

Aptly named, it’s located in the marina area of Cabo San Lucas.   

There’s also El Merkado in San Jose del Cabo, which is full of vendors.   

In these places, you don’t have to worry about illegal vendors.   

Tips For Buying From Beach Vendors 

There are a few tips that can help you when you’re buying from beach, street, or market vendors.   

One is to look for those credentials.   

It’s also important to steer clear of vendors offering illegal items too.   

Another great tip is to feel free to haggle over price because vendors do expect it from tourists and are more than willing to wheel and deal.   

Buying from street and beach vendors can be a great experience, and Los Cabos is making it safer and easier.
