Get Ready For Pristine Los Cabos Beaches Following New Massive Cleanup

Even if a tropical storm doesn’t directly hit a destination, it can still have some pretty negative effects on the environment.   

This was the case with Tropical Storm Ileana’s recent passing near Los Cabos, which produced enough rain to cause some flooding in the destination.   

That flooding led to garbage washing onto the area’s beaches, but now beachgoers can get ready for pristine Los Cabos beaches following a new massive cleanup.   

Flooding In Los Cabos – Not Just A Water Problem 

No town, especially a popular vacation destination like Los Cabos, wants to experience the aftereffects of flooding from a bad storm.   

It isn’t just about the flooding, but the other problems that flooding can cause, one of which is washing garbage onto the streets and beaches.   

This is what just happened when Tropical Storm Ileana passed by Los Cabos. 

The Damage Caused By Tropical Storm Ileana 

When the storm passed and produced huge amounts of rain, it caused several issues.   

One was the flooding of the streets, which led to the overflowing of the sewage system.   

Another major issue was all of the garbage that washed up on the area’s beaches.   

According to reports, 70 tons of waste needed to be removed.   

The Massive Cleanup Operation 

In response to the tons of garbage that was carried to the beaches from rains caused by the storm, a massive cleaning operation was launched.   

Members of the community came together to all pitch in on the cleaning, which resulted in the collection of the 70 tons of waste.   

Private businesses, civil organizations, and restaurant and hotel workers all pitched in to get the beaches clean for beachgoers again. 

A Message From Officials 

Staff from ZOFEMAT, The Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone, commented on the cleaning work being done.   

Delegation coordinator Manuel Cortez Avila commented about how fast the work got done.   

He stated, “Once the rain passed, we got to work, we started on Saturday and by Monday we already had an advance of 90%, therefore, today we have the work covered in its entirety and the beaches are ready to receive the population.” 

Los Cabos Beaches Back To Normal 

According to ZOFEMAT, most of Los Cabos’s beaches are back to normal.   

The one that still needs some attention, though, is Las Viudas Beach, which is located along the Tourist Corridor that extends from San Jose del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas.   

Other beaches along the corridor, in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, are pretty much cleaned and ready for beachgoers.   

Most Popular Los Cabos Beaches Among Tourists 

Los Cabos has more than 20 Blue Flag-certified beaches.   

Blue Flag beaches are beaches that meet strict standards of cleanliness and safety.   

Of all the Blue Flag-certified beaches in the destination, there are several that are the favorites among tourists.   

Those beaches are: 

• Medano Beach 

• Lover’s Beach 

• Divorce Beach 

• Chileno Beach  

• Santa Maria Beach 

• Palmilla Beach 

Los Cabos Not Out Of The Woods Yet 

Tropical Storm Ileana is the first storm to really affect Los Cabos this year, but they’re not out of the woods yet.    

Hurricane season lasts through November in Los Cabos, and the latter part of the year is often the most active.   

Fortunately, it isn’t very common for Los Cabos to be hit with major storms, but as this storm proved, even a weaker storm can cause some pretty extensive damage.   

If you’re worried about a similar storm interfering with your vacation, you may want to wait until the winter months to visit Los Cabos.
